Uncle Bill: How I Spent My Summer
This past summer turned out to be all about travel for me. There were conferences to attend, inspections to conduct and motorcycles to ride. I bet you can guess where I had the most fun.
A summer with two charity motorcycle rides just can't be beat. The first one, in mid-June, was 4 days in England with the First Night Riders. Lots of country roads, country villages and country theatres. Riding two up on a Heritage Softtail was an interesting departure from my usual solo rides. Many thanks to my passenger, Canna Gray, and to Brenda and David Edelstein for organizing the ride.
I was back to solo riding for the 10th annual Long Reach Long Riders charity ride at the end of June. This year it was eight days around the Great Lakes and over into Canada. We stopped in at the ETC factory in Middleton, WI (thanks for the tour, Fred) and, toward the end of the week we visited Niagara Falls. My thanks to Scott Henkel and Shelley Seifert for putting together such a great ride.

July turned into conference month. I had been asked to speak at PALME Asia in Singapore and at Entech 2013 in Sydney, Australia. Two very different and very interesting cities that I had not visited before. Singapore was all about the food. Try any of the Hawker Squares for a great sampling of the local cuisine. Sydney has a lock on icons. There's the Sydney Opera House, of course, where we got an awesome tour thanks to my ex-pat buddy Jim Neisel. The Harbour Bridge is pretty cool too, especially at night as you sail under it on a ferry.
I even managed a day-long motorcycle ride with Jim and Glenn Harris. If you get out that way you might want to stop in at the Robertson Pie shop, a few miles south of Wollongong on route 48. Mmmmmmm good.

| CITT |
The last stop on this whirlwind summer tour was the CITT conference in Calgary, Alberta. (That's in Canada for the geographically challenged) Always a good show with great people and fun events. Swag bingo defies description but if you can picture a bunch of technicians channeling their grandmothers you'll get the idea. A sobering moment came at the awards banquet when I accepted an Honorary CITT Membership on behalf of The ESTA Foundation's Behind the Scene program.
After Calgary it was finally time to come home. Fashion Week was right around the corner and it was time to get down to business. Many, many thanks to the SRI staff and crew for covering for me while I was gone.
I am wondering, however, how come there's a trash can full of party hats in the break room and a half eaten cake in the fridge.
