Why Knot?

How to Tie More Than Sixty Ingenious, Useful, Beautiful, Lifesaving, and Secure Knots!
By Philippe Petit
Why Knot?On August 7, 1974, Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between the New York World Trade Center's twin towers, where he performed for nearly an hour. During this history-making walk, and many others throughout his celebrated career, knots have always been indispensable components-the guardian angels protecting his life in the sky.

After years of hands-on research, Philippe presents Why Knot?, a guide to tying his essential knots. Philippe's own practical sketches illustrate original methods and clear, clever tying instructions. Photographs in which special knots were used during spectacular high-wire walks, quirky knot trivia, personal anecdotes, helpful tips, magic tricks, and special tying challenges ensure that, if you're not already nuts for knots, Petit will transform you into a knot aficionado.

Uncle Bill's Travels
If you're interested in catching up with Uncle Bill this summer, you're going to need a passport.  Bill will be speaking at PALME Asia in Singapore on July 17 & 18, ENTECH13 in Sydney, Australia on July 23, 24 & 25 and at CITT Rendez-vous 2013 in Calgary, Canada on August 17. If you are in the neighborhood please stop by and say hello.

Long Reach Long Riders Speaking of passports, the Long Reach Long Riders annual charity ride is coming up on June 28th.  The ride takes place in the Great Lakes region and will spend a day or so in Ontario.  Hence the need for passports. You can read Bill's article on the history of the LRLR in the Spring issue of Protocol magazine.  The magazine will hit the streets next week.

There's still time to donate to this very worthy cause.  Please visit
http://lrlr.org and check it out.
