Hurricane Help
Hurricane Sandy has passed, but the devastating effects will be with us for months to come. Our condolences go out to the individuals and businesses impacted by by this storm.
SRI was fortunate to only experience a minor email/website outage and we are happily back online and open for business. Others in our industry weren't so lucky and we encourage you to reach out with whatever assistance you can. One of the best ways you can help is to donate to the Red Cross. Supporting this remarkable organization helps those in immediate need and ensures help in future emergencies.

Uncle Bill Talks About... Voting
This is an edited version of an article that first appeared in HEADS! Vol. 9, No. 5 (we think) October 2004
"A citizen of America will cross the ocean to fight for democracy, but won't cross the street to vote in a national election." -- Bill Vaughan, Columnist and Author. ______________________________________________________________
I grew up in the 50's and 60's in blue-collar suburbia. Row homes as far as the eye could see. The neighborhood was chock full of kids and, when we weren't in school, we ran from dawn till dusk. Baseball, hide and seek, basketball, football; you name it we did it. I had a blast.
My father was second generation American. His grandfather came from Russia in the late 1800's. My mother was first generation Italian. Neither were overtly patriotic. My father took me to all the holiday parades but mainly because he liked to listen to the bands. Mom was a little more enthusiastic. She would help us decorate our bikes every 4th of July. Looking back I can see how, in the little things they did; the flags going up on the holidays, the membership at the VFW and volunteering with the little league; they both recognized, enjoyed and valued their good fortune at living in the USA.
Being 8, I didn't much care what was going on in the outside world. Nothing had much of an impact on me unless it involved my getting dirty. But then, when I was 10 or so, my father took me with him when he went to vote. It was the era of the cold war and Cuba and segregation and I believe he took the voting thing very seriously. It was fascinating.
As I grew older I took a pretty strong stand on the issues of the day. Voting, I realized, was yet another method to achieve the kind of social and political changes I wanted. That hasn't changed.
Do I care who you vote for in November? You betcha! But that's not what this note is about. This is about standing up for your principles and showing the world that you really do care what happens around you and in the USA.
Election day is Tuesday, November 6th. It's a cliche, I know, but there really are people in the world just dying to be able to do what we take for granted. So go. Vote. It takes but a few minutes and you will feel good about it. If your guy doesn't win, at least you get whining rights for the next 4 years.
And take your kids.
Thanks. Bill Sapsis

NEW! from Sapsis Rigging: The Technician™
 | | ProPlus: The Technician™ |
The Technician™ harness is designed for use by those whose work requires using multiple safety systems at one time. Climbing a wire rope ladder to reach a truss and then traversing along the truss is one example of a multiple safety system requirement.
Only one snap hook or other connector is allowed to be attached to a fall arrest ring at any time, per OSHA requirements. The Technician™ harness is equipped with two dorsal rings, one of which is attached to the end of a 9" extension.
