A Prophet Like Moses...

And so we conclude Deuteronomy. What a powerful ending: Moses, hale and hearty at 120, still strong enough to climb Mt Nebo, see the Promised Land... and when he dies, God buries Moses God's very self.  It is a touching ending to Deuteronomy, a touching ending to the adventure that began with Exodus, and a fitting conclusion to the Pentateuch (aka the 5 books of Moses) that began "In the beginning..."

As an aside, that Deuteronomy writes of Moses' death is one of the arguments against the idea that Moses wrote the Pentateuch...

The cycle predicted in the blessings and curses portion of Deuteronomy we will see over and over in Joshua and especially in Judges-- just around the corner. And we will hear the CNN version, so to speak, when we read of the Assyrian devastation in 721, and the Babylonian Exile in 587, as we read through the books of Kings...

Thank you for being on this journey!
