The ET Batavia Sprint Distance Triathlon and Duathlon, a USAT sanctioned event, marks its 10th running in 2013. Our triathlon starts with a 400 meter swim in the Harold Hall Quarry Beach using a time trial start - 3 seconds between competitors.  Our duathlon starts with a 2.0 mile run on the Fox River Trail. The bike course is a 14.7 mile route with rolling hills and scenic prairie views. The 4.1 mile run is flat, fast and shaded, winding along the Fox River Trail with wonderful vistas of the Fox River as you race.  Some have told us it's one of the best tri/du run courses in the area. We also have a fantastic post race party that includes free pizza, beer, music, a raffle and age group awards ceremony.

We Need Volunteers!

The ET Batavia Triathlon and Duathlon is coming up on June 9, and we need your help!  In addition to the triathlon and duathlon, we have youth events to produce and support. We expect to fill to capacity again this year and we need volunteers for both the adult and kid's race.

Helping with an event is almost as much fun as doing the race, and it's a great way to "give back" to the sport, help other athletes, and support some great charitable organizations!

How to keep your momentum and speed while turning
by Coach Sarah

Here's a quick tip that might help you tackle all the turns & corners in the cycling leg of your next race with as much efficiency as possible.

Shift down 1-2 gears (i.e. shift to an easier gear in the back) as you are either heading into, or coming out of, the turn.  This allows you to accelerate again as smoothly as possible, keeping your cadence HIGH while you are accelerating back up to speed.   After you've got your speed back up, THEN shift to the gear you were in before heading into the turn.
