 The Bammy Awards

I love teachers. I love teaching. I love everything about what teachers truly are. Teacher Appreciation Week is just around the corner and it can't come too soon. Our teachers are tired. They've worked hard all year to prepare the students for high-stakes testing and are in the midst of them. It is so exciting to see that there is an organization that is on a mission to show the incredible side of teaching by hosting an awards program that looks life, feels like and impresses like the Oscars. I think this is one of the greatest gifts to the teaching profession because we want to build our teachers up, not burden them. This "tuesdays" is dedicated to all of you would are giving your students your all. You deserve this honor.

The Bammy Awards are the coolest Teacher Appreciation event I have ever seen. They are comprised of dedicated educators who want to give back to the teaching community through encouragement and recognition. The Bammy Awards seek to honor educators across the whole spectrum of education - from teachers, principals and superintendents, to school nurses, support staff, advocates, researchers, school custodians, early childhood specialists, education journalists and parents.  In their own words, "Perhaps the greatest threat facing all educators today is the relentless national criticism of America's public schools. The national narrative that is driving the negative public perception of education is leading to a decrease in public confidence and calls for reduced financial support. Today, educators face intense scrutiny and criticism, while what is right in American education is largely ignored." BAM Radio is the sponsor of this event and is uniquely positioned since it stays in close touch with the teachers in the trenches and educational issues of our times.

An encouragement

If you have never heard of the Bammy Awards before, don't feel like you are alone. Please check it out and consider nominating or voting for someone. I am so excited because Lee Kolbert is "Trending" (as they put it on their website). She is an excellent example of a teacher who is super passionate about education. For her classroom experiences to her district positions, Lee has been someone I've always look to for the real deal. If you don't know anyone else, go check out Lee's profile on the Bammy Awards an vote! There are 21 days and ticking (the have a countdown clicker on the site) until the Bammys. Let's vote!

How do you do that?

How do you vote on the Bammy Awards site? It's simple. You don't need a lot of time. You just need to do it! Browse the site for nominees and look for the nominations. It was fun to read through Lee's. Even her son wrote one. The hard part about Bammys is that they expect the nominee to promote themselves on their blogs, websites, Facebook pages, etc. That's too hard if you are humble which is often the case with teachers that are great at what they do. So let's help them out and add a comment to someone you know. If you don't know anyone - nominate. Thank you so much BAM Radio for encouraging the educational field. We appreciate it.

"Those who educate children well are more to be honored than they who produce them; for these only gave them life, those the art of living well."
