Grading Papers

Teaching is a most unique profession. The highs and lows are unpredictable and the roles we play as teachers are as equally unpredictable. We are counselors, instructors, peacemakers and even crime stoppers. The teacher I was coaching today became my hero because she had a premonition that one of her girls stole some money from another and as we were walking the class to lunch, she literally ran to the Book Fair and was able to catch the thief in the act and recover the money. Where do we get training for that? I am in awe of Mrs. Lahav! I never had immediately recovery like that. I love almost every aspect of the dynamics of teaching but one - grading papers. This week, my nephew, who is student teaching past this beta product along to me and I just knew it had to be this week's "tuesdays."

A creative website

Anything made by teachers for teachers ranks high in credibility. Walter Duncan has been a classroom teacher for 14 years. He needed a way to grade papers faster and a system for using the data in real time. This led to the development of Quick Key. Watch this video and stand in awe of the potential of this beta app. Now beyond our wildest dreams, it will even upload the results into your electronic grading system. I don't know about you, but this has been the missing link ever since we've gone to electronic grading. This is the product to watch and they are looking for beta testers. Go for it!

An encouragement

If you have never beta tested a product before I encourage to try this one. In Walter Duncan's own words, "Since my first day on the job - in 1999 - I've been using computers and the Web to enrich my lessons. I've always embraced technology in my teaching. But a few years ago, I found myself grading ninety assessments per day, and transcribing the results into my school's database. It added eight hours to my workweek! And I wondered: what would happen if teachers got to design the software? I didn't want to wait around for the answer, so last summer I decided to take action. The result is Quick Key, a game-changing smartphone app for teachers." Why wouldn't you want to jump on this creation? Quick Key eliminates hand-grading of quizzes, tests, and formative assessments, even for teachers working in paper-based classrooms, without a computer. Please let me know if you become part of the beta-testing team and how beneficial Quick Key really is.

How do you do that?

How do get started with Quick Key? Click on the link below the video or Power2Teach, look for "Become a Beta Tester" in the upper right hand corner and fill out a short form. They are very interested in getting a lot of teachers involved because it's Win-Win for everyone. They get their product field tested before going to market and you get in on the ground floor of the tool that could take away the only true act of drudgery in teaching - grading papers. Thank you Walter for your entrepreneurial spirit.
