If you are like me, you like to "do something." I like to work toward a goal and then see it completed. Let's be honest, that really feels good! We humans tend to "do" things to feel better about ourselves. I believe God created us to be active and want to see progress in our lives. That is a natural and acceptable part of our design.
This God-given design, conversely, gets twisted in our Christian belief system. We look at our behaviors or performance and determine how serious we are as Christians. We even judge others more harshly by this same standard. A busy Christian equals a growing Christian in our thinking. We even look for busy churches to join, so we can feel good about ourselves as believers. After all, we were "saved to serve." Even our spiritual gift inventories are for the purpose of finding out where God has spiritually gifted us, so that we can find our niche in the realm of Christian service.
