One of my warmest memories as a father, and now grandfather, was/is being a story teller of a series my children affectionately called "
Jack The Journey." Even though my wife was an avid storybook reader to our children, due to my lack of being able to read until I met my wife (who taught me to read), I became gifted at telling stories from true life events.
It all started shortly after we married. As Jane and I would lie in bed, I would begin telling her a story about a young man by the name of
Jack, who went on adventures each night, discovering the truth about himself and the world around him. To my surprise, my wife became attached to this story time; so much so, if I didn't tell a story, she felt like something was missing in her day. After having children, this adventure series with
Jack began to take on more form and life. After both of us were introduced to the Exchanged Life, the story line soon became a way to share the message of the indwelling Life of Jesus, "Not I, but Christ," with my children. The rest, as they say, is His-Story.
Once my daughters became adults, they were constantly encouraging me to write a series of children's books unfolding the adventures of
Jack The Journey. For many years, I put the idea on the back burner and continued to produce adult theologically-based materials to advance the adult listener and reader. Then one day it happened - six of my grandchildren moved away to another state, each expressing their deep sorrow in missing out on the
Jack The Journey stories. But it wasn't until a recent visit to Florida to visit our adopted children and their four boys - all
Jack The Journey fans - that the idea hit me! I have a podcast that is well-established throughout the world. The idea came to me to use this podcast to get
Jack's story out to children around the world, particularly my grandchildren. With that - the
Jack The Journey podcast was born. Not only did the podcast take off like a flash of lightning, the Lord gave me an illustrator, a children's curriculum editor, and several story line editors to begin putting the audio series into published story books - the first book to be released in 2016.
THE STORY LINE
This 200 episode series takes young
Jack from his little cabin in the mountains (unsaved) into the
Land of Judah (the indwelling Life of Jesus), and then onto a journey with encounters of the
Dark Forest (where
Jack discovers the practical realities of the power of the
Cross). As long as
Jack stays on the
Gold Brick Road (walking in and after the Spirit), he finds victory and rest; but if Jack goes off the
Gold Brick Road, the
Dark Forest begins to consume him and he finds himself in desperate need of appropriating who he is in the
Lion of Judah. For those of you who are familiar with a workbook I wrote titled
Identity Matters Workbook, Jack's story is a children's amplification of this workbook in fictional story form.
