Come and welcome 2014, the Year of the Horse, at Korean Focus's largest annual event, made possible each year through the help and generosity of the Korean United Methodist Church of Greater Washington.

 

Inclement weather plans: The Metro DC area may experience some snow flurries tomorrow, but no accumulation is anticipated. As of the evening of Friday February 7, the event is a GO. If nothing changes, no further announcements will be made. If it does, stay tuned to our webpage, Facebook page or Twitter feed for more information.

 
We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Jae Ok Chang to this year's festivities. Ms. Chang is the author of the four-volume cookbook series Vignette of Korean Cooking. Ms. Chang will be providing the day's refreshments and will also be offering demonstrations of Korean cooking.  Books from the series will also be available for sale. 


We are also thrilled that the Korean Traditional Dance Team under the direction of Mrs. Hee Kyung Lee will join at this year's celebrationThe team will perform the Mask, Drum and Fan dances during the opening ceremony and will teach a workshop for the children during the activity sessions.

  • Play traditional Korean games, like yut and tuho
  • Ride the hallyu wave at a Seoul noraebang
  • Shop for beautiful Korean handicrafts, art, jewelry, toys and more at the Ginkgo Leaf Arts Korean crafts sale
  • Try your luck at the annual New Year raffle
  • Make a craft to take home to remember the fun

Volunteers are welcome, especially teens: this is a great opportunity to obtain community service hours. We welcome the help of adoptees, adoptive parents and members of the Korean American community. Contact us if you'd like to help.

Easton MD New Year Event Feb. 1

Eastern Shore families: If you can't make it to the KF-KUMC Lunar New Year Celebration on February 8th in McLean, VA, here's another option!

Easton Area Lunar New Year Event

 Saturday February 1, 3:30 - 5:30 PM
Location: The Country School Field House, 716 Goldsborough Street, Easton, MD 21601
Fee: $15 per adult, $10 per student, ages 5 and under are free
 
Chinese dancers performing the ancient traditional Lion Dance will kick off the first Lunar New Year celebration in Easton on Feb. 1, 2014.

The Easton event is from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The performance starts promptly at 4 p.m. with other activities following the dance. Tickets can be purchased online for $15 per adult, $10 per student and ages 5 and under are free. Checks can also be mailed to the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, 102 E. Dover Street, Easton, MD 21601. Please make checks payable to: Mid-Shore Community Foundation and writing "Lunar New Year" in the memo line. The event is open to the public.
