Greetings Members!!
Welcome to NMUCA 2016. It's a new year, bringing new opportunities to become involved with our profession, which delivers construction projects that enable thriving communities. This past month the NMUCA Board of Directors met to discuss challenges that face the industry, compare notes and plan for the upcoming year and beyond. NMUCA plays an important role across all aspects of the construction field in New Mexico, from planning and research and interfacing with the design, to project delivery, risk, finance, safety and post construction services. Please consider joining one of our committee's this year; Safety, Planning, Membership, Human Resources or Technology. Each committee is working on issues important to our industry and your companies.
There is much going on in your organization. You can catch up on some of those happenings on our revamped website at nmuca.org. There will be opportunities to network and hear from a diverse group of presenters and speakers on topics that are affecting our industry. We look forward to seeing you there. Best wishes in this New Year. Darrin Howells

CHOOSE TO CONTROL YOUR WORKER'S COMPENSATION COSTS
|
Members of the New Mexico Utility Contractors Association, New Mexico Building Branch, Associated General Contractors, Associated Contractors of New Mexico, American Sub-Contractors Association of NM, and Associated Building Contractors joined forces by "pooling" together their workers' compensation premiums to create the New Mexico Contractors Comp Trust.
Which means NMUCA is part of a workers' compensation insurance program owned by the premium payers. That means you are the beneficiary of your own insurance policy.
As members of this self insurance program your employees retain all benefits and rights provided by the New Mexico Workers' Compensation Act.
The Comp Trust is supervised by a Participant's Board of Trustees. This assures the program is operated in your best interest. Your premium dollars are secured in federally insured investments, thus interest income is generated into the fund.
When losses are reduced, the cost is reduced.Because the Comp Trust is owned by its participants, they share in the monies not allocated to losses or operational expenses.
- Aggressive local claims administration with member participation in the claims decision making process.
- Medical cost containment available through a state-wide network of qualified health care providers.
- Lower costs from efficiencies in localized claims' handling operations.
- "Buy Back" options that could lower experience modifiers.
- High quality, specialized safety and loss control programs.
- Participatory and pro-active claims management to help your injured employees.
- Stabilized premiums.

New Mexico Regional Common Ground Alliance

On January 28th, the NMRCGA held a very well attended meeting in Las Cruces, NM to discuss the following items:
- White Lining -- making it mandatory even in now exempt areas (with populations under 10 thousand)
- "Call Before You Dig" - Hand Digging -- should you call NM811 First?
- Positive Response - review the positive response system and discuss additional responses for UFOs.
- Abandoned Facilities -- A very complicated issue with little solutions
- Damage Reporting
- Ticket Life -- extending the life of a ticket to 15 days (now at 10)
These topics may lead to statute changes in the One Call Law. Our industry is well represented and provides input, but please consider attending a meeting and offering your own testimony on these topics. The next meeting is scheduled for April 29th in Artesia, NM and again in Albuquerque on June 23rd.
