Greetings Members!!

American Flag

 Hello Members!!!

I am so proud to be part of an industry that can come together for a common goal. You may know that several construction industry associations, including NMUCA, have bonded together in an effort to convince legislators to come to an agreement on the failed capital outlay bill so that we can have a special session. At moments, a special session was a done deal, and then other moments it wasn't. Unfortunately, deadlines pertaining to bonding have passed that were needed to make the capital outlay funds viable, but it's not quite over yet. We are still hoping and working towards a special session. The construction industry will lose money for projects and will feel the pain as well as the communities that will lose out on the funding for the projects. The media, critics and industry have been harsh on legislators for failing to pass this bill and, if nothing else, perhaps this will be a lesson learned. In the meantime, this is a reminder of why your membership matters. It's not just the numbers that the associations represent in Santa Fe, but the diversity of the industry, and when we all band together we make a difference. I can assure you, that if the construction industry stood by and did nothing, there wouldn't be any contemplation of a special session at all. I'll keep you posted!!

Help us recruit new members! If you recruit a new member this week, I have tickets for an Isotopes game for you for June 15, 16, or 17. Call or email with information.

National Safe Digging Month

NMUCA Sponsored the National Safe Digging Month Celebration at NM811 where a Resolution designating April as Safe Digging Month in New Mexico was read by Karen Montoya, NM Public Regulation Commissioner. Our very own DIGBY also made an appearance and pleased the crowd. DIGBY is NMUCA's Safety Turtle who visits schools to remind and teach children about the dangers of construction sites. Special thanks to 4Rivers Equipment who brought a piece of equipment to hold refreshments.

NMUCA Committees
NMUCA Committees are open to all members. Recently, we have added two committees to better serve you, our members, and to provide valuable information and resources. Most meeting days and times are standard for committees. Please consider becoming involved in a committee; we always have room for more and always welcome new ideas and participation. Check our our online calendar HERE for dates and times.

Membership Committee -- This Committee focuses on membership retention and recruitment. We focus first on current members to ensure that your membership is worth the investment.

Safety Committee -- This committee focuses on, you guessed it, Safety! If you're involved in your company's safety program then this committee is for you. Whether your company is big or small, this is an excellent resource for all of our members. One of the top stated reasons for belonging to this committee is getting to know other safety professionals and being able to use them as a resource. This is the perfect setting to learn, teach, share and network in the realms of safety for our industry.

Human Resources Committee -- This committee is relatively new and has made substantial progress in streamlining the hiring process to share with members. This committee is made up of people who are in anyway involved in the HR in their companies. We have been working on streamlining the hiring process and have created and produced generic forms and checklists to share with NMUCA members including an application form, I-9 & E-Verify instructions, CDL Hiring Checklist, background check checklist and guidelines, and more. These documents will all be available soon on our web page.

Planning Committee -- This committee gets to plan all of the meetings, networking events, social events and fun including membership meetings, speakers, NMUCA Night at Isotopes, Last Ditch Open Golf Tournament, Mid-Year and End-of-Year Social, etc. From menus, giveaways, attendance, logistics and details, this committee does it all and has fun doing it! If you like being involved in planning events and helping execute them, this is the committee for you!

Tech Committee   -- Our newest committee chaired by our new member Joel Mora With MoraTech, focuses on learning, teaching, introducing, and keeping up with technology for the construction industry. Technology can make our lives easier but it can also be a bit complicated. This committee will help our members ease into using new technology without the confusion and irritation that technology can bring. Face it, we can't hide from technology, so we may as well use it to our advantage! You don't have to be tech-savvy to participate in this committee, just willing to learn and give technology a chance to work FOR you.

Education Committee -- This committee focuses on educating our youth about the opportunities in the construction industry. It also produces, collects, reviews, and awards our scholarship program. The committee is currently working on a curriculum for the City of Albuquerque's "Running Start for Careers" program. This is also DIGBY's home as he loves to visit elementary schools to teach children the wonders and dangers of construction sites.

Progress

The NMUCA office continues to undergo a major re-construction process but progress is being made. The project was predicted to displace NMUCA's Office for about a month or so and it's going into its sixth month! Patience is the order of the day as I am told that the transformation of the building will be well worth the wait. I would like to express my tremendous gratitude to RMCI Inc. who has furnished me with an office in their building and allowed NMUCA meetings in their training room while the NMUCA office building is being finished. I would also like to thank Highway Supply LLC for letting me use their room for committees also.

I am looking forward to moving back into the "new" office as soon as it is finished. I'll keep you posted on the date and plan on having an open house for all members.
