Membership Dues Renewal
If you haven't done so already, please take a moment to send in your renewal dues payment for your 2014 membership. If you don't recall receiving an invoice, please email me at nucanm@nucanm.org and I'll send you a PDF copy. You're important to our membership and you add strength to our voice and representation of the industry. If you have questions about your membership, please call Jane at 888 0752.

2013 was another very successful year in regards to our mission. NUCA of NM serves its members to Promote, Protect and Preserve the utility industry. Before we move on to next year, I'd like to give my sincere thanks and appreciation for your NUCA of NM membership this past year. I realize that our members are here for many different reasons and it is my hope that your membership was money well spent. As we are all so busy during the year, sometimes there just isn't time to read every newsletter, every email, and every announcement, so I'd like to summarize the accomplishments and activities of 2013 that would not be possible without your membership. I'd also like you to feel confident that your membership dues are utilized wisely and prudently under the watchful eye of the Board of Directors. Click Here to view a summary of 2013.

I hope to see you at the upcoming membership meeting on February 27, 2014. As always, if you know a company that would benefit from membership, please bring a representative from that company to lunch and we'll pick up the tab for them and you!

You Make the Difference

I am very proud to represent NUCA of NM members during the New Mexico Legislative Session again in 2014. I will be reporting weekly on how legislation is moving (or not in some cases) through the process to keep you informed. I will also send out calls to action which may be a list of committee members or an email specifically for your representative. In politics these days, it seems as if politicians do not listen to their constituents, but I have seen proof that they do, especially on a  local level. Please take a minute or two to contact legislators about an issue. I will make it as easy as possible by providing information, phone numbers, and sample emails to send. You don't have to limit yourself to just your own legislator either; if it's an important piece of legislation, you should voice your opinion.

As reported back in December, Governor Martinez has initiated a proposal to allocate 60% ($112M) of the capital outlay funds for water and wastewater projects throughout New Mexico. Obviously, this is very high priority for NUCA of NM members. I will be following this closely and working with various other groups to educate legislators on the economic benefits of infrastructure investment and spending. CLICK HERE to read the Governor's Press Release.

If you need to reach me during the session, I will be checking emails and messages; otherwise, please don't hesitate to call my cell phone at 505 362 8950. Please leave a message for me as the phone is off while I'm in a committee or meeting with a legislator.

Want to come up to Santa Fe for a day and see what it's all about? On February 7th, we'll be having our annual Santa Fe Summit! This is a great way to come up and be part of or just observe the process for half a day finishing with lunch. I'll be your guide to everything "Session" related. It's fun and educational and will give you a new perspective on the workings of politics. If you're interested, please call me --Jane-- at 505 888 0752.

2014 NM Legislative Session

NUCA of NM is watching several pieces of legislation already. Pre-filed legislation consists of 42 House Bills, 2 HJM, 2 HJR, 2 HM, 1 HR, 55 Senate Bills, 5 SJM, 7 SJR, & 3 SM. As your representative in Santa Fe please contact me with any legislation you feel relevant to the industry, or if you want to discuss legislation that's on the NUCA of NM list. Jane Jernigan 888 0752

NUCA of NM's focus in Santa Fe is to support legislation that:

  •  Promotes jobs
  •  Funds projects
  •  Protects business
  •  Provides common sense tax reform and changes to the tax code as is relates to business
  •  Promotes safety aligned with industry best practices
  •  Is business friendly
  •  Helps promote economic growth through strengthening small business
  •  Benefits our industry

I'll be sending out references and calls to action throughout the session so look for those too and please take time to make a phone call or two as it can make a difference to the outcome of a bill.
