Greetings Members!!

It's been a busy few weeks since the last newsletter. I hope that you are doing well, staying busy and staying safe. As summer becomes evident by the heat and unfortunate wildfires, remember that special precautions should be taken to protect yourselves and your employees from sun stroke, dehydration, and burns.
Follow these links below to view and print a NUCA Toolbox Talk about protection from the heat and sun

2013 Washington Summit
| |
The annual NUCA Washington Summit is the best opportunity for NUCA of NM to bring the issues to our legislators and educate them about the needs of America's Infrastructure. The American economy is built and relies on the integrity of the infrastructure and it's crumbling and falling apart. Our goal is to educate and highlight the needs for our state and for the country. Building and funding infrastructure is a responsibility of the Federal Government written into the Constitution by means of general welfare under Section 8. Right now, America is playing catch-up on its needs. Until we are able and willing to fund the needs of our infrastructure fully, we'll continue to see bursting, broken pipes, and the crumbling of our roads, utilities, & bridges. We also offer the NM Delegation assistance when questions arise regarding infrastructure legislation.
Read the full report online HERE
Issues:
- Support the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)
- Support the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA)
- Support lifting the volume cap on Private Activity Bonds (PABs) for water and wastewater projects.
- Maintain Current funding for EPA's State Revolving Fund Program (SRF)
- Support Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS)
- Support Public Private Partnerships (P3) and encourage state representatives to support them in the NM Legislative Session
- Oppose placing the Lesser Prairie Chicken on the endangered species list.
Thank you!
Your membership allows the executive director to not only lobby to the NM Delegation in Washington D.C. but also during the State Legislative Session, and at the city, county and regional levels. If you have an issue or concern on legislation, regulation or other processes at the federal, state, city or county level, please contact the association office and let's talk. Your fellow members may very well be tackling the same issue!

NUCA of NM - Industry Involvement
| |
As part of a 2013 initiative, NUCA of NM will be involved in industry events and activities to increase our visibility, attract new members, and gather information for current members in regards to industry trends, legislation, education, and safety. By working with other industry stakeholders and agencies, NUCA of NM can help work together to solve problems and find solutions using multiple resources.
NUCA of NM recently participated in the following:
- 58th Annual Transportation Engineering Conference
- NM Joint Industry ES&H Safety Meeting.
- NUCA Washington Summit
- NUCA Safety Committee
- NUCA Executive Director's Council
- NM Regional Common Ground Alliance EXPO and Conference
- New Mexico Business Coalition
- Review of PRC Pipeline Safety Bureau's proposed changes to the NM One Call Law
Again, your membership in NUCA of NM allows us to be able to participate in these programs outside of the association's regular events. Your membership makes a difference everyday.
Thank you!
