News and Current Ministry Needs

February 2014

Greetings!

Thank you for continuing to give the hope that is found in Christ alone to the children and young adults in Haiti through your support of HFC! This is a monthly newsletter that we will be sending out to give all of you a better understanding of daily happenings at HFC. If you have any questions or would like to get more information about any of the stories included in this e-update, please contact Cheryl Henlin at Cheryl.Henlin@hfchaiti.org or leave a message on our office phone at 781-937-8338 and Cheryl will return your call.

Meet Rose Phara, a second generation HFC child

My name is Rose Phara Mertus. I am 8 years old.

I was born in a zone called Gros-Morne in northwest Haiti, where I grew up with my mom; I did not know my dad, because he died when I was a baby. I have 3 sisters and one brother.

My life was very difficult, because my mother did not have a job or anyone to help us; she was not able to take care of her 5 children. Many times I used to sleep without eating and when I was hungry, and I asked my mother to give me the food, she hit me, because she did not have anything to give us.

Today I am happy because I find a spot where someone is taking care of me.  I would be really happy if the same person could take care of my 4 sisters and brother also.

I want to thank everyone and that allows me to go to school, have clothes, and who removed me from the difficult situation that I was in.

Thanks, one thousand times!

Monthly expenses
Andy acne problem 2014 Six of the second generation kids (Adamson, Wisnada, Andy, Vassetie, Roodenaly, and Roodemia) continue to suffer from a fungal skin problem that causes acne. Please pray that effective treatments will be found! The orphanage staff are trying a couple different medications.

Some cost-saving measures that were undertaken this month included monitoring the use of the tap-tap to make the most of the miles it is being driven, and a review of laundry methods to save water and soap. Staff repaired leaky or broken toilets and pipes. The young adults' and children's shoes required some sewing after a few soccer matches in the cement courtyard!

The wall in front of the boys' house was repaired after being hit by a truck that was making its way along the steep road outside the orphanage.

Thanks for reading and praying about these items! We look forward to sharing more news next month!

Rose Phara is one of many of HFC's second generation children who would benefit from a $35/month sponsorship to help cover her living and schooling expenses.

Would you consider welcoming this girl into your heart as her sponsor?

HFC's General Fund pays for doctor's visits, fuel costs, water and soap purchases (water delivery shown in picture, above), general repairs, and orphanage staff salaries.

Help us recognize the important work that is being done daily by the staff in Haiti by making a donation that can be applied to these and other operating expenses!
