Celebrating God's Faithfulness

For those of you who weren't able to make it to our annual banquet, we wanted to share a small part of the celebration with you. Below is a testimony from one of the girls who grew up at HFC.

My name is Mikerlange and I am nineteen years old. I was two years old when I arrived at the orphanage and at the age of fifteen, I was adopted into the MacNicol family. During the course of my life, a lot of changes have occurred.

Growing up at the orphanage was a blessing. We, at the orphanage, were very fortunate that we never had to worry whether or not we would have enough food to eat the next day. Sure it was not always the type of food we liked but we knew that there were many other children who would have loved to benefit from what we were given. We were fortunate enough that we were each given the opportunity to go to school without having to worry.

Above all, we each had the opportunity to grow spiritually with Christ. During the course of my life at the Pension, I realized that I do not ever have to worry about the future. I remember once, there was some kind of crisis going on and some of the kids were really worried about what would happen to them and I remember a small portion of them who kept restating the verse Matthew 6:25-27 "therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" Each time I read it, it reminds me to trust the lord more and rely on him no matter what. Sometimes I fall short and think I should be independent and rely solely on myself until I fail and realize that I need God's help and need to trust him in my journey.  I won't ever stop needing God no matter what my age is.

One of the lessons I learned was during the earthquake of 2010. God told us to trust in him no matter the circumstances. After the earthquake I remember how afraid I was of what would happen next. Will everything be the same? Will life be harder? Not just for me, but for others who were in the same situations. But did worrying change anything? No. God soon reminded me he had it all under control and that he has something great planned for my life.  Because of the earthquake, many of us from the orphanage were able to come to the United States and start a new life. Not to say that God has forgotten the rest, but he has a plan for each one of them. Who would have known that Chrystelle or Fabiola would have come under a visa for college? No one, but through each of those experiences, he is reminding me and you to trust in him and let him take control over everything. And he is not yet finished with me, you or the others still at the orphanage.

And as I continue my journey with Christ, I am looking forward to seeing what God has planned for my life as it says in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I will certainly face challenges but I will be reminded each time that God is with me.

Merry Christmas from the Kids in Haiti

Emmanuel Deronvil, who grew up at HFC and is now in his last year of schooling before going on to his post-secondary studies, drew the art for the front of this year's Christmas card. But more importantly is that he did the art as part of a project with the younger children to create Christmas pictures for you!

Nourish their bodies, grow their minds, feed their souls.

The Marion Austin Christian School that is a big part of Hope for the Children of Haiti's ministry to our community has grown from being established for the education of the children in our care to serving 477 children in our community. This is no small task. Each year we aim to provide a high quality of education that is grounded in Christian principles and values. And yet, there has been a missing part that has weighed on the hearts of HFC's Board. Many of the children come to us on empty stomachs and leave without any guarantee of returning home to a meal. In the past couple of years we have expanded our sponsorship program to feed some of the students but it is clear that it just isn't enough - there are so many more going hungry every day.

Now we have an opportunity to provide each child with a hot meal for only $.27/day! If you would like to be a part of this important program, please designate "School Feeding Program" with your year-end gift and help us make this program and reality!

You can help us reduce our costs by updating your contact information and selecting electronic delivery for HFC mailings and receipts. Go to www.hfchaiti.org/emailme to fill out our online form.

Prayer Requests

We give thanks for the new kids who have come into our care and pray for their health as of many of them have health and nutritional needs.

That we would continue to be a blessing to our community while encouraging the community to reach out to others in their community who are in greatest need.

That God will provide the financial means so we can institute a school-wide feeding program.

That the Gospel of Christ would be proclaimed both in word and deed.

Praise to God for providing a new generator and inverter to provide the orphanage and school with more consistent electricity.

For our staff in Haiti that they would be uplifted through the work that they do on a daily basis.

For the first generation children that they would realize the important role they play in giving back to this next generation of kids.

For the Board and staff that we would not become weary in well doing but instead move ahead under God's strength and guidance.
