Make Wishes Come True

You can make a child's wish come true.
 Just like all charities at this time of year, LWB is in the midst of our annual campaign. I wrote about my realization of what the campaign needed to be about in our year end letter, which came to me as my youngest son and I were looking for shooting stars. Of course we were making wishes, and I began to think about how children growing up in institutions often have the very most basic of wishes - to feel loved, to be warm, to not be hungry.
This time of year is so special to us at LWB because so many families who have adopted children from our programs send us their holiday photos and letters. Each time a card comes in we exclaim things like, "Do you remember how tiny she was?" or "Oh the prayers that were said that she would recover from surgery!" The photos always show children surrounded by families, looking healthy and happy and WHOLE. Children whose most innocent wishes have come true.
This is the perfect month to reflect on all of the children we have been able to help; it is also a time to think of our own blessings and make a pledge to help a child who is hurting. I can promise you that your gifts directly impact the children who need it most - those who desperately need someone to believe in them. With your help, so many more of their wishes can come true in 2013.
