Re-enrollment and Financial Aid

Read the re-enrollment letter  from Head of School Stuart J. Dow and Board President Brad Rauch. Emery/Weiner is staying "green" with the enrollment process. Instead of filling out paperwork and mailing in your payment, please read and accept and the enrollment agreement, review the tuition schedule and make your payment exclusively online!

Please note: Only the deposit is due by February 28. Deposits received after February 28 will incur a $250 late fee. Questions? Contact Cristina Andaya at 832-204-5900 or by email.

2013-14 Financial Aid Application Now Available

You can be assured of confidentiality, fairness and sensitivity throughout the financial needs assessment process. Complete the online application and submit supporting documents to FACTS by March 1, 2013, in order to be considered in the first round of financial aid awards. Please note that approximately 80% of our financial aid awards are made in the first round, and subsequent requests will be considered based on remaining dollars. Notification of financial aid awards will be sent to applicant families at the end of March.

Help is available from FACTS at 1-866-315-9263. Should you have questions about the financial aid process, please call Cristina Andaya at 832-204-5904 or email her.

Black Box Conversations

Don't forget the first Black Box Conversation this Thursday, February 21 from 6-7 p.m., hosted by Head of School Stuart J. Dow. Precise topics to be decided, but articles like the one here  will be the sort broached. From grit to regret, from anger to acceptance, we'll consider topics that we try to teach our kids, as we continue to learn them as adults.

EWS Driving Safety

This month, a middle school student had her foot run over during carpool and an upper school student -- a new driver -- was reduced to tears after being tail-gated through the parking lot by a parent. It's time to reiterate our campus driving rules:

  1. The U-turn in front of the campus is illegal during the hours of 7:15-8:45 a.m. and 3:15-4:45 p.m. Please be aware that we were recently notified by a neighborhood representative that they plan on requesting additional police presence to enforce the U-turn prohibition. Please recall, making the U-turn is not only illegal -- and your children are aware and do notice --  it is also dangerous during peak traffic as it forces drivers to cut across others in order to get in the right hand lane to enter campus.
  2. Upon entering campus, no driver should be using their cellphone -- to talk or text.
  3. The posted speed limit on campus is 10 mph.  (Drivers regularly exceed this speed limit, endangering students and faculty attempting to cross the parking lot to enter school.)
  4. There are only 2 approved student drop-off/pick-up areas: US carport & MS carport. Students may not be dropped off or picked up at the back of the school, or by the front offices.

Please remember we have young and inexperienced drivers navigating our parking lot.

These rules are not arbitrary, they are for everyone's safety. Please obey them.

EWS Theater Needs Your Help

Our production of "The Wizard of Wizard of OzOz" is coming up and we will in fact be flying the children. Unfortunately, it takes several able bodied individuals over the age of 18 to assist with this process. We have a professional fly director coming in to train us on the ins and outs of flying students and making sure it can all be done safely. If you would be interested in being "techies" and flyers for the production, please contact David Berthold.

Rehearsal and show dates:

March 3-6      4 - 9 p.m.

March 7, 9     6 p.m. - Show ends

March 10       1:30 p.m. - Show ends

We really appreciate your consideration and know that the kids would really appreciate your help!

Tickets for "The Wizard of Oz" will go on sale February 28.

Blue Book Update: ERB Reminder, Spring Show

Please remember that MS ERB's will be held from Tuesday, February 26 - Friday, March 1.
This change was first announced in November and differs from what is printed in the Blu

The Spring Show was also moved and will be held March 7, 9 and 10. Please be sure to check the online calendar for the most up-to-date calendar.

Fine Arts TAPPS at EWS, Volunteers Needed

The Music Department at The Emery/Weiner School will host the Region IV TAPPS Music Contest - an Emery First! While most of you know TAPPS through an athletic capacity, the TAPPS organization has contests also in instrumental music (symphonic band and orchestra), vocal music and visual art.

On March 1- 2, more than 20 schools in the Region VI area will come to EWS to present their best musical works in large ensemble, small ensemble, and solo music performances. Among the entries is our very own Upper School JagChoir singing three large ensemble pieces.

During these two days, the Fine Arts Booster Club will offer concessions to the schools. We are in need of volunteers to help work the concession stand for a few hours each day. If you have the time and want to join in on the Emery Excitement contact Alyssa Tiras or Micki Bronston to sign up and get more information.

As always we thank you for your support and Go Jags!
