CROSS COUNTRY RUNS IT'S WAY TO SUCCESS
The Jaguar Cross Country team capped off a remarkable season Thursday, October 11 at the District Championship Meets. With near perfect conditions and the tough course located at Challenger 7 Memorial Park they had several runners set personal best times and place very well in the race. Highlights on the day include Joseph Fields placing 5th overall in the GHAC Championship, Senior Hayley Reed taking nearly two and a half minutes off of her personal best time, and our other Varsity Girls placing in the top 20 in our district! One of the most impressive season highlights is that both Sarah Stein and Mara Kushner are ranked in the top 50 in TAPPS 4A statewide. With that distinction Sarah and Mara have now qualified to compete in the TAPPS Cross Country State Championship held in Waco, TX Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Baylor Cross Country Course. Congratulations girls and best wishes at State!
It has been quite an exciting season, full of many accomplishments and Coach Berthold and Coach Wilkinson are already looking forward to next year. They are hoping to keep a running group going throughout the school year, and would love for anyone to join them. You don't have to plan on running cross country, but if you are interested in running with a fun group then contact Coach Berthold at dberthold@emeryweiner.org and he can get you the information. |

LADY JAGS SET TO HOST TAPPS 4A DISTRICT 4
VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
The Emery Varsity Volleyball program will be the host site for the Finals of the 2012 TAPPS 4A District 4
Tournament Saturday, October 20th. Following the First Round and Quarterfinal games played on Thursday, October 18th the remaining teams will converge to Kosberg Gym for Championship play Saturday. The day will begin with the Semi-Finals, followed by the 5th and 3rd Place games, and closing with the Championship game. Click 2012 TAPPS 4A District 4 Tournament for more bracket info. The top five teams will then advance on to represent District 4-4A in the State Playoff Tournament beginning Tuesday, October 23rd with Bi-District match-ups.
Please note: Booster Club Membership cards will not be valid for free admission to TAPPS District Tournament games on Thursday, October 18th and Saturday, October 20th. Though we are the host school for the tournament, these are not considered "home" matches. The funds collected during admissions will be used to pay for the costs associated with running the district tournament. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
We are asking the entire community to come out and support the Lady Jags Tuesday, October 16th as they host Pope John XXIII at Kosberg Gym. Not only is this a critical district game as the ladies look to secure a top seed in the District Tournament, but it is also Senior Night honoring four seniors and their families. Junior Varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m. and the Varsity hits the court at 5:30 p.m. |

8TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL FINISHES IN TOP 4 AT BHS TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, October 6th, the 8th Grade Lady Jaguar Volleyball team competed against some of the top public and private schools in Houston at the Bellaire High School Middle School Tournament. In pool play they finished in 1st place, beating out a couple of powerhouse public schools, Lanier and Pershing, and a very respectable private school, Second Baptist to be only one of four teams at the tournament to qualify for the Gold Medal Bracket. Gold Medal Bracket Teams included Emery/Weiner, St. Marks, St. Anthony de Padua, and R.O.B.S. Although, Emery/Weiner lost in the semi-finals to eventual tournament champions St. Anthony of Padua, the tournament director recognized the Lady Jags as being the only team to score double digits on SADP who is hands down the best middle school team in the city. The competition was fierce and the volleyball being played on the gold medal courts was simply outstanding for this age group. Special recognition and congratulations goes out to team captain and setter, Shelby Glover, as she was selected to the All-Tournament Team for being one of the most outstanding players in the tournament. Other schools who competed in the tournament were Kinkaid, Pin Oak, AOS, Trafton, Honor Roll, Rice, Duchesne, Johnston and Welch. |
