TRAFFIC - PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY

Yesterday I met with a Lieutenant from the CHP to talk about ways we can increase safety and enforcement. Our families expect that our crosswalks are a safe place to cross the street. Please drive carefully and make sure you stop for all pedestrians in our crosswalks.

On Sunday there was an article in the Walnut Creek Patch about traffic in our neighborhood. To read the article please follow this link:

Notes from Miss Emily in the Office

'Tis the Season for LICE...Bah Humbug!  Unfortunately, lice do not go south for the winter. These little critters are a BIG hassle and we need everyone's help to be preventative about their spread.  We must keep Parkmead itch free by being mindful of the following:

  • Always notify the school office when you have discovered lice on your child.  This information is considered confidential.
  • When Lice Notifications are sent home, please pay attention! Check your child immediately.
  • Any student found to have lice MUST receive a medicated shampoo treatment before returning to campus.  Continue monitoring for lice daily, up to two weeks after treatment.
  • Take precautions.  Keep long hair tied back.  Do not share personal items such as hats, scarves, brushes, helmets, or caps.  Be thoughtful of social engagements such as sleepovers

2014 Science Fest

Our annual Science Fest commences in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) on Friday January 31, 2014 with Science Night. Parent volunteers will organize hands-on activities, exhibits demonstrations and games! (This is a prelude to "Science Fair" which happens later, in February).

Register Online: Now is the time to register your kids' projects for the 2014 Science Fair which takes place February 27th. Students will showcase their own projects in the MPR.

To register, go to our website  http://parkmeadscience.com and scroll down to the "Register Here" icon.  We also need more volunteers. Use the link for "parent volunteer sign-up" for both Science Night and Science Fair. Full details are on the website.

Science is Cool!

Spirit Wear

Are these freezing cold mornings making you wish you had purchased a nice, warm Parkmead Logo Sweatshirt? Not to worry! We still have some hoodies and t-shirts available for adults and kids! (22 youth full zip hoodies, a few youth pullover hoodies, lots of boys and girls t-shirts, and a couple of adult t-shirts and hoodies too!)

Just stop by the office on Friday Dec.13th at 8:10 after drop off or Monday Dec. 16th between 1:45 and 2:30.

T-shirts are $12 and sweatshirts are $25. (checks to be made payable to PERC). If it is not possible for you to stop by during the designated times you may contact Emily in the office to arrange another time. Parkmead logo car magnets $5, lanyards $2, travel mugs $4, and pencils are also available in case you need some for yourself...or as a gift?

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers needed for short and flexible job: We need about 20 volunteers to each follow up with 10 businesses who have received a letter requesting they make an auction donation but have not done so yet. Often a simple email or phone call will do the trick - the business often wants to make a donation but needs a gentle reminder. No meetings and you can do this when it is convenient for you!

We promise not to ask you to do more than 10! Sign up using this Signup Genius link or email [email protected].

The auction is PERCs biggest fundraiser. Your time and donations to PERC fund science and technology labs/equipment as well as other educational and fun programs at Parkmead!
