Message From The Principal

THE CHARACTER THEME FOR NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER IS CARING

"Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of kindness:

--Kindness in your face

--Kindness in your smile

--Kindness in your eyes"

Mother Teresa

CARING

  • Be kind
  • Be compassionate and show you care
  • Express gratitude
  • Help people in need
  • Forgive others
  • Show generosity

SOUL SHOPPE

Next week students will attend the Soul Shoppe assembly "Ally." Students will learn skills to help them be an ally when they see someone being teased or bullied. An ally means standing up for a safe, fun and bully-free school. It doesn't mean taking sides, tattling or snitching. An ally means standing up for everyone feeling safe at school. We will review how to identify bullying and what to do when it happens at school. Students will also learn intervening strategies and how to know when to get an adult for help.

PARKMEAD ON TV

On Monday KPIX Channel 5 was on campus doing a story on our irreplaceable Mr. Dick and our lunchtime show. The story will run Thursday morning at 5:20 and 6:20. They will also post the story online after it airs on Thursday. Great press for our wonderful Parkmead Elementary!

Parkmead PTA

Parkmead PTA is working hard this year to help our Principal and Teachers make the Parkmead experience the best it can be. Please note that we will not hold a General PTA meeting during December! But we are busy, read on....

First and foremost, I'd like to extend a very sincere THANK YOU to PTA volunteers Becky Shank and Jen Pickett. Becky has done a fantastic job leading the PTA Reflections Art Program at Parkmead. Submissions tripled over last year! Many of our students will be showing their work at the Reflections Showcase at WCI this Saturday from 11:00 - 2:00. Also, Jen Pickett and her team of volunteers put together a Kinder Coffee for Kindergarten Parents. Over coffee and muffins Parkmead's newest parents got to meet each other and members of the PTA.

Parent Education - We are planning to host a Parent Education event on Child Safety in early February. Please keep an eye out for details. You will not want to miss this event! Thank you to all of you who attended the PTA potluck for your help selecting our next Parent Education event.

International Night - Thanks to Aida Sadikovic for taking the lead on organizing the first PCS International. She and her team are looking for volunteers to help us have an event to learn about different cultures. We will need volunteers to be a part of this special day.

Readathon - Under the leadership of Kelli Peterman the PTA and PTO are working hand in hand to co-sponsor a Readathon later this year.  The Readathon committee is forming in the next few weeks.

5th Grade Gift - Every year the PTA allocates funds for the departing 5th grade class to make a gift to the school. This year we are working on making this a joint project with the PTO! A bench, a tree, a swimming pool (OK, Mr. Reddam, no swimming pools) we want the ideas of the 5th graders but we need the support of a 5th grade parent to drive this effort!

Please follow the link on the Parkmead PTA website to contact our Volunteer Coordinator Amy Kemmerer or join us at our next PTA meeting on the second Tuesday of January.
