ART/MUSIC/PE BEGINS

The teachers call this time collaboration because they are working together while your students are attending once a week "specials." This week we are in coached collaboration with our instructional coach Alison Gomez. Grade levels are spending this time developing questions based on our school goal of partial implementation of Common Core State Standards (complex text, informational text, text dependent questions). A grade might ask: "What strategies are we using to more deeply engage students in complex text? How do we know these strategies are working?" The process of answering these questions is called action research and involves writing goals, looking at student work, and changing practice based on the results.

Volunteers Still Needed for Community Service Day

We've had very few sign ups so far so please consider lending a hand!  The day begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Heather Farm Community Center with an optional pancake breakfast.  Then meet us at Parkmead Elementary at 9:00 a.m. for a few hours of work and fun in the garden or library.

Please register here.  The last day to register online is September 25.  Please email Brooke Smith at [email protected] with any questions.

Walking Club
The Walking Club returns to Thursday lunch recesses after a successful debut last year. Students walk laps around the field and earn tokens as they go. If you are interested in helping with the club and are available Thursdays from 11:20 to 1:00, please e-mail Beth Culler at [email protected].

We are looking for volunteers to develop activities and staff tables during lunch time (11am - 1pm).  Last year we provided tastings of healthy foods and taught the kids about sugar content in beverages.
