William (Bill) Bobenhausen, FAIA passed away on March 13, 2013. Bill founded Sustainable Design Collaborative LLC in 2001. Previously, he was President of the predecessor firm Energy Design Collaborative, Inc. He was a member of AIA New York.

His commitment to environmental architecture was cemented during the year of his graduation from the City College of New York School of Architecture. He served as President of the Metropolitan (New York) Solar Energy Society (Chapter of American Solar Energy Society), 1978 through 1982 and was an early member of AIA National COTE (Committee On The Environment) Committee, 1996 through 2003. He was selected as a Fellow by the AIA in 2001. He served as a juror for the AIANYS Empire State Challenge in 2011.

He served in key roles during the formative years of the New York Chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC): Treasurer in 2001 & 2002, and Chairman during 2003. A LEED AP (Accredited Professional) since 2002.

Jonathan F. P. Rose Named Honorary AIA

Jonathan's work has set the standard for well-designed, mixed use, mixed income, green projects. His strong commitment to making high-quality architecture and urban design accessible to all has made his projects national models for community transformation. Perhaps most notable is the recent Via Verde, designed by Grimshaw Architects and Dattner Architects with landscape architect Lee Weintraub. To visit Via Verde is to truly appreciate the value and beauty of architecture. This project alone has set new standards of architecture practice-achieving deep community benefits and holistic health in a blighted neighborhood in the South Bronx.

Jonathan began searching for green building solutions as early as the 1970s, long before the LEED rating system was created. While LEED and other green design frameworks emerged for market-rate and public office buildings, Jonathan focused on how to bring green design to low-income communities. His firm's development projects are characterized by sensitivity to their varied urban contexts, their concentration on walkability and accessibility to public transit, their variety of affordable housing options, and their striking design. He undertakes each project with a commitment to his core belief that the highest goal of every project is to make the world a better place.

His mission to reshape and reimagine communities is supported by his generous sponsorship of the Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship. The Fellowship offers early-career architects the opportunity for firsthand training and experience in sustainable community design work. Jonathan's contribution of countless hours and millions of dollars to this program has enabled nearly 50 recipients to embark on a career dedicated to forging positive change in our nation's communities.
