Blessing or Cursing
October 2012
Greetings!

Now that we are into October, we can see its spectacular Autumn changes outside going from being green and lush to trees foliage bursting forth in colors of vibrant red, yellow and orange. We can hear the rustle of the leaves under foot, feel the crispness in the air and partake in the harvest that brings us the wonderful  pumpkins and apples that are everywhere.
It is a sensory delight!
Harvest time is a reminder of the blessings of bounty. Does it remind you of God and His goodness? God is a God of blessings. He always has been and always will be. How many times is some form of blessing mentioned in the Bible?
bless - appears 127 times
blessed - appears 302 times
blessedness - appears 3 times
blessest - appears 3 times
blesseth - appears 8 times
blessing - appears 67 times
blessings - appears 12 times
We need to be reminded that God has not been focused on our sins but on how He can bless us. Let today be a day where we focus on the blessings that God has given to us and lift up the areas where we lack. Why do we focus on what we do not have? Let's look at what brings His blessings.
Obedience Always Brings Blessing

Charles Stanley from Intouch Ministries shares in one of his sermons examples of people who were blessed when they obeyed God:

  • Noah's obedience saved his family from the flood.
  • Abraham's obedience resulted in his becoming the father of a chosen people, a great nation, Israel.
  • Joshua won the battle of Jericho by following God's supernatural strategy.
  • David refused to harm Saul, the anointed king.
  • Jehoshaphat relied on God's word when the Ammonites attacked Judah.
  • Peter obeyed Jesus' command to fish in the heat of the day.
  • Paul followed God's will and took the Gospel to the Gentiles.

Abraham also shows us that we not only have to believe in God but we have to believe God. When we believe that God is the God who He says He is, then we can believe that He will do what He says He will do. Obedience to His word brings blessing.

Our Words Can Bless or Curse

Keeping connected with someone is so much quicker today than it has ever been. There are 92,ooo text messages sent every second. We can share our joys within seconds but we can share our disappointments within seconds also. The only thing that we cannot do is take back something we have sent by text or said in conversation. Our words have the power to build up or to tear down, to bless or curse. James 3:5 tells us that "the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles." Our words have the power to destroy another. It only takes a moment in haste to bring destruction. Proverbs 12:18 tells us that words can be like a piercing sword that can affect our health. We may take too lightly the words we say in jest, anger, bitterness and unforgiveness. Do you remember something that was said many years ago and how it impacted your own life? If you find yourself living with regret and would like to work on these issues we at H2HCC can help you. How Are You Wired?

We are told in Jer. 29:11 that we each have been given a plan and purpose by God. We are also told in Psalm 139:16 while in our mother's womb God knitted us together God with what we will need to do His plan. At H2Hcc we utilize a 54 question assessment that will reveal what unique inborn traits God has given to you. It will show your areas of strength as well as your areas that need to be brought to a strength. If you have ever wanted to know yourself better we are offering a Fall Special from October 15 through October 30, 2012 that includes an A.P.S. Temperament Assessment with two 50 minute sessions by phone. This a limited offer so do not wait too long to find out how God has equipped you for His plan and purpose.
