Message from the Superintendent       

  I hope this issue of Nside finds you and your family excited and prepared for a wonderful Spring Break.  Parent-teacher conferences are tonight through tomorrow and I hope parents' busy schedules will allow them to participate in these valuable meetings.  

 



NPS wins grant for $120K

  The state has awarded Norman Public Schools a grant worth $120,000 to initiate AVID learning programs at both Norman High and Norman North High School.  Each school will receive $60,000 to implement AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.

Whittier students build autism awareness

Irving students sweep competition 

Fielding a team and competing in History Day events is no easy task.  Participating schools must have students complete projects that require months of work both in and outside the classroom.     

 



State testing begins after Spring Break 

  It won't be long after students return from Spring Break that state-mandated testing begins within the district.   The state determines the testing window and, as such, all public school districts throughout Oklahoma will be conducting state testing during the same period of time.

Kudos and congratulations! 

  Lakeview Principal Paula Palermo is the first runner up for the 2013-14 Oklahoma Elementary School Principal of the year, also known as the Oklahoma National Distinguished Principal!  From a huge pool of nominees from across Oklahoma in the elementary education, Paula was one of three finalists for the state's top honor for an elementary school principal by the Oklahoma Association of Elementary School Principals.

  All-City Band, Orchestra March 25-26 

NPS will hold its 53rd annual All-City Band and Orchestra concerts in the Lloyd Noble Center the week following Spring Break.   

 

All-City Orchestra will be March 25 at 7:30 p.m., and All-City Band will be the following night, March 26, also at 7:30 p.m. Together, the two concerts will showcase the talent and efforts of approximately 1,600 students in Grades 5-12.

NPS Job Fair 

Prospective teachers for the Norman Public Schools for the 2013-14 school year are encouraged to attend the district's Teacher Job Fair on Tuesday, March 26, from 1-4 p.m. at the Nancy O'Brian Center for Performing Arts at 1809 Stubbeman.
