2016 The First Tee College Golf Prep Academy

Noor Ahmed and Jonathan Tanihana, from The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, will attend The First Tee College Golf Prep Academy in Reno, Nev., July 20-27. Ahmed and Tanihana are among 24 junior golfers from The First Tee, ages 15-18, selected by a national panel of judges to participate in this academy for elite players.
The First Tee College Golf Prep Academy is a unique opportunity for participants within the network that are interested in pursuing collegiate golf. Participants will receive life skills and golf instruction from The First Tee Coaches and special guest speakers to help improve their chances to compete at a higher level athletically and academically.
Noor has been a participant of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento for 8 years. She is finishing up her junior year at Vista del Lago High School. She was named all 3 years an All League Player and helped her team capture 3 league titles and 2 straight San Joaquin Section Titles. Noor is a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the School Unity Project at VDLHS. She received several academic and golf awards including the Sutter Middle School Cougar Award for Respect and was selected by The First Tee for the Outstanding Participant Leadership Summit, The Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, the NorCal Life Skills Academy, and The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academy. She is Eagle certified and is working on her Ace project. Noor continues to volunteer as a Life Skills instructor on the Junior Tour and a volunteer junior coach at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
Jonathan is 16 and a junior at John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento. He learned to play golf with his dad and was introduced to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento by participating in the Little Linkers Program at 6 years old. He was named to the First Team All-Metro League the last 3 years and 2016 Metro League MVP. Jonathan is a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento Junior Tour and was named 2016 Player of the Year in the Boys 16-18 division. He is currently enrolled in The First Tee Life Skills Experience Program, Ace level and has enjoyed being a part of the Junior Tour life skills coaching committee. He also enjoys helping younger kids as a junior coach at William Land GC with Coach Sam.

2016 The First Tee Northern California Leadership Academy
|
In June, five participants had a great time attending the Northern California Leadership Academy in Monterey, CA. Madison Green, Katelyn Harris, Ryan Parry, Hailey Rietz and Ari Samuel attended this fun and educational experience that allowed them to work on their leadership skills that they can use at their chapter, school, and community. Participants were housed in dorms at the Robert Louis Stevenson School in the 17 Mile Drive. During the week participants had the opportunity to meet fellow participants from other The First Tee chapters, interact with the top Coaches in our network, and engage in fun, extracurricular activities within the Monterey and Pebble Beach area.
Madison is a junior at Davis Senior High School and started with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento in 2015. She enjoys volunteering as a junior coach with the younger participants in the Saturday morning programs. She first picked up a club when she was four, but did not start playing tournaments until her freshman year during the high school golf season. Madison was also involved in a local ballet company for nine years and just completed her sophomore year maintaining a 4.33 GPA.
Katelyn will be a sophomore at Antelope High School this fall where she plays on the girls varsity golf team and maintains a 3.85 GPA. She has been a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento since she was six. Katelyn loves to volunteer at the SPCA, Morton Golf Foundation and with the California Eagles - Special Olympics program. She is a life skills coach on the Jr Tour and is Eagle level in her life skills.
Ryan is a Freshman at Jesuit High School. He has played a variety of sports thus far in his life and has been associated with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento since 2014. Ryan is a junior coach at the Haggin Oaks Program Locations and volunteers his time with different organizations for individuals with disabled persons. He also focuses heavily on schoolwork and received honor roll freshman year.
Hailey is 15 years old and will be a sophomore at Granite Bay High School in the fall. She first played golf at the age of nine. Hailey started Little Linkers at William Land when she was 10 years old and The First Tee of Greater Sacramento Junior Tour when she was 13 years old. As a freshman, she maintained a 4.0 GPA and played on her high school varsity girls' golf team earning a Sierra Foothill League MVP. Hailey is a member Junior Tour Life Skills Coaching Committee. She also likes reading and photography.
Ari will be a junior in the fall at Pleasant Grove High School and has been on the girl's varsity golf team since her freshman year. She has been a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento for three years and has been playing golf for 4 years. Ari enjoys sketching and track & field. She has been providing community service at Edna Batey Elementary School to students for over 5 years.

Meet Lillian Rubi, a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento program at Bing Maloney Golf Course. Lillian (5) has participated in the Tots on the Tee program last summer and has now joined the Saturday FUNdamental program. She is very competitive and always wanting to beat her older sister at golf.
Hobbies: Likes to draw and watch T.V.

What golf club is your favorite and why? Driver, I can hit the ball far.
