The First Tee Scholars - Class of 2016
The First Tee Scholars Program is a distinction awarded to teen participants who excel in academics, leadership, character development, and chapter and community involvement.

Congratulations to Chisay Arai, David Laskin and Nicole Schroeder from The First Tee of Greater Sacramento who join a class of 79 scholars designated to the Class of 2016.

Arai, a senior at Granite Bay High School, has been a part of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento for the last 4 years. Chisay had never played sports growing up and felt she was not athletic. She started off shooting 128 in her first high school golf tournament. However, her junior year, she shot par, including a hole in one at the State Fair Junior Golf Tournament. She recently committed to play collegiate golf at Holy Names University. Chisay maintains a 4.25 GPA while being very involved in her church and serving in the community.  The First Tee has given her confidence through integrity and perseverance. With her vibrant positive energy, Chisay wants to give hope to those around her that all things are possible with God.

Laskin, a senior at Jesuit High School, has been a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento since 2004.  David has been active with the program participating in The First Tee Junior Tour, serving as a life skills coach, and volunteering with the US Kids Golf Tour He has represented The First Tee as a guest speaker at the Little Linkers banquet and as a junior player in The First Tee Open. He maintains a 4.3 GPA , is a member of the National Honor Society, was recognized with the AJGA Scholastic Award and received the Outstanding Service Award at his high school.  Actively involved in community service, he has helped mentor at local schools, served as a tutor at his high school and traveled with a group to New Orleans to help rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity.  He has been awarded the River Cats All City sports award, MVP of his high school golf team, as well as, All-Leagues in the competitive Delta League.  In the fall, he will be attending and playing golf for University of Arizona.

Schroeder, a member of the The First Tee of Greater Sacramento since 2011, is graduating from Rocklin High School this June. She has embraced the teachings of The First Tee and loves giving back. During her high school years, she earned more than 300 hours of volunteer and community services hours including the creation of a RHS Fundraising Golf Camp for Rocklin youth.  She has maintained a 4.06 GPA at Rocklin High and is active in the California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, and was a founding member of the Rocklin Student Athletic Senate. Nicole was a starting member of Rocklin's varsity golf team for all four years, was voted Most Improved in her freshman year, and was League MVP in both her Junior and Senior Years. Nicole will also be inducted into the Rocklin High School Hall Of Fame.  This fall, she will be attending Oregon State University and will be playing golf for the Beavers.

Louie Euer

I am in my 2nd semester at Sacramento State and loving every minute of it. College is just as difficult as I have always heard, but I am making new friends and really enjoying the experience. I still golf quite often with my boss and friends and will always love the game. I am looking forward to continuing my involvement with The First Tee, volunteering at Jr. Tour events, helping with junior camps and growing the relationships that I have made in the program.

A popular question that I have been asked for the past few months is why I decided to not play college golf. Throughout my years with The First Tee, I was always told that The First Tee would make me a better golfer, but more importantly, how it would allow me to see what path I would like to take in life.  I wanted to find a career that would give me the ability to give back to The First Tee and to help people; this is why I have chosen to go into insurance. I am currently working at Pilcher Insurance Agency which is an independent, family owned, insurance agency.

I have learned that The First Tee Nine Core Values are actually instrumental in being a successful insurance agent. Mr. Pilcher says that he hired me because he thought highly of my attention to detail, my honesty, how I am someone that my clients can trust and my desire to succeed. In many ways, I remind him of himself. I have made The First Tee Nine Core Values the foundation of my life. These values have resulted in me being happier with the decisions I make in life, and now it has introduced me into a career that I love.
