Congratulations Ken Morton Sr.
On February 10th, during the star studded AT&T week at Pebble Beach, the California Golf Writers and Broadcasters Association inducted golf pro Ken Morton Sr. into the California Golf Hall of Fame.  In 1983, Ken founded SAY-Golf which is today called The First Tee of Greater Sacramento.  He was the President from 1983 to 2001 and was an officer until 2006, when he became an Emeritus Board Member.

We do not know anyone who is more deserving of this recognition. Ken started from very humble beginnings, working as a caddie at age 11 and worked his way up to build a lifelong career in the golf industry. Being inducted into the California Golf Hall of Fame shows that perseverance and hard work do get recognized. Ken you continue to be a outstanding mentor for all of our participants, Congratulations!"

FREE Girls Golf Clinics

Our FREE Girls Golf Clinics are a great way for young ladies ages 9 to 17 to meet new friends, become familiar with ways to get involved with the game and learn in an environment that is friendly, fun and educational.  Much of the clinics will be geared toward the "Three Pillars" of the junior golf programs at our city golf courses; golf skills, athletic movements and The First Tee Nine Core Values™.

The First Tee Nine Core Values™ are integrated seamlessly within all of the stations and discussed in a way in which covers many aspects of life.  Both the golf skills and athletic movements are set up in a station or circuit like way, so that all golfers are constantly staying active.

Each clinic will be held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, on the Academy Holes (located at the back of the driving range).   Dates are as follows:

Congratulations Bill Gould

Bill Gould received the 2014 WGANC Outstanding Achievement Award for

recognition of his past and continuing support of junior girls golf.  Bill has been a long time champion of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento.

For the past 12 years, Bill has led a team of captains in coordinating over 200 volunteers at our annual Junior Tour Championship.  This is a major event, made very special by Bill's leadership and all of the wonderful residents at Sun City Roseville.  In addition, Bill created the Hi-Five event in 2006, in which four seniors are paired with one junior each July in a team format that raises funds for golferships and college scholarships. To date this effort has raised over $40,000 in funds to support our young people.

Congratulations again Bill on this well-deserved honor! We thank you for all of the continued support from you and the residents of Sun City Roseville.

Where are they now?
Alumni of The First Tee
of Greater Sacramento

Taryn Yee

Alumna Taryn Yee, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, had another incredible opportunity to share her story at the
CBS Reception at Pebble Beach during the AT&T National Pro-Am tournament week.

"It was so exciting and such an honor to speak again on behalf of The First Tee, with Jim Nantz, Nick Faldo, Scott Langley, and Jimmy Walker.  It was a pleasure to see Tim Finchem, Laura Orlen, and Jen Weiler again at the event, as well.  Before the reception, I also did an interview taping on the 18th hole for CBS and The First Tee.  Furthermore, I will be featured as the alumni spotlight for The First Tee's annual review!"

Taryn started with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento in 2002 at the age of 10 and graduated with the distinction as a The First Tee Scholar in 2010. As a participant in our chapter, she was introduced to the game of golf through the Little Linkers, LPGA-USGA Girl's Golf Program, and Junior Tour. Taryn successfully completed The First Tee Life Skills Experience Ace-level certification and utilized these skills to coach juniors enrolled in the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program, mentor and teach the life skills  to fellow participants, actively participate on the Junior Committee, and gave back to the community through volunteer work. The First Tee of Greater Sacramento not only developed her golf ability, but also taught her valuable life skills and core values, encouraged her to reach out to the community through volunteer work, and prepared her for future endeavors.

Hole in One

Dylan Van Ostrand got his THIRD hole in one on this month in the rain on the Bing Maloney Express 9, Hole #2, 65 yards using his sand wedge.

Dylan has been a participant since 2009 and is currently at the Eagle life skill level.  He has also been recognized as a The First Tee A/B Honor Roll member 4 times.
