Newsletter
Hole in One's
You may recall being introduced to Trevor Hull in our March newsletter last year. We are excited to report that Trevor recently got a Hole in One. He was playing Bing Maloney's Express 9 the 1st hole, 104 yards and used his pitching wedge, Congratulations Trevor!

Trevor has been with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento at Bing Maloney for the past four years. He is 14 years old, and a member of the Year Round After School Program and the Saturday Practice & Play Program. Trevor attends John F Kennedy High School where his plays trumpet in the band and is on the school's golf team.

Trey Davis also got his first hole in one, at Plumas Lake Golf Course Hole #16, 167 Yards, using a 7iron. He has been close several times and finally got it! Trey has been playing for about two years now and gave up all other sports last October to play golf full time. Trey is a member of our The First Tee of Greater Sacramento Junior tour and based on his play and life skill session attendance was named the 2014 Player of the Year for the Boys 14-15 yr old age group.

Why Golf ?
Golf closely parallels real life as players experience the highs and lows of the game. The First Tee uses golf as a way to talk to young people about managing emotions, setting goals and other important life skills. Here are top 10 reasons why young people should play golf.

Enjoy the outdoors, develop lifelong friendships, practice personal responsibility, have a safe place to play, manage your emotions, appreciate diversity, prepare for business, learn etiquette, spend time with family, wellness for life (to read more about these reasons click here).

The First Tee of Greater Sacramento has 15 program locations and plans to have 20 by the end of 2015. Each location provides The First Tee Life Skills Education within the programming.

Camille Furgeson

Camille was a member of our Junior Tour from 2006-2009 and then went on to attend St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.  She was titled Heartland Conference Player of the Week in October 2012 and achieved Heartland Conference's Commissioners Honor Roll from 2010-2012. Camille obtained her undergraduate degree in the spring of 2013 in Speech Communication and is currently attending graduate school at University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) for Media and Design. She is an assistant coach for the UIW golf team. She travels with the team and enjoys working with the team and coaches on a daily basis. Even though Camille misses playing collegiate golf and being on the same team as her sister, she says this new chapter of her life is both thrilling and rewarding.

Chairman of the Board

A very special thank you to Dave Roughton who was has been an outstanding leader as Chairman of the Board of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento for the past 3 years. Dave is dedicated to our mission, and his leadership has enabled us to grow the total number of children reached through our program from 6,300 in 2011 up to over 17,600 young people that we are impacting today.  Dave was instrumental in our partnership with UCP of Sacramento which allowed us to grow our Adaptive PE program as well as gaining support from AT&T and NCR that provided necessary funding to substantially expand our National School Program which now reaches over 14,000 students.

Dave will continue to serve on our board, but has passed the gavel over to the very capable hands of Bruce Stimson, CFO Roebbelen Contracting. Bruce has served on our board since 2004 and will be leading us into what looks to be a remarkable 2015 for The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, filled with great opportunities for our participants and special activities and excitement surrounding The 2015 U.S. Senior Open at Del Paso CC.
