   Happy Thanksgiving
Congratulations Coach Tom!
Tom Morton, Director of Player Development for Morton Golf and a The First Tee Recognized Coach receives 2014 National PGA Youth Player Development Award

Tom has worked closely with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento on curriculum development, coaches training, program management and has also served on the Board of Directors.  His passion for junior golf is contagious; he believes that creating a fun, safe and personal goal-oriented environment for juniors is important, as those elements focus on the "process" and "pure joy for the game."  He has been an incredible mentor to many, not only the participants, but also parents, family members and other coaches within our community.  We are extremely proud of Tom, his accomplishments & are happy to call him one of the coaches & leaders of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento.

Congratulations again Tom!

Participant Spotlight

Meet Jarod Heng who has been a participant with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento at Diamond Oaks in Roseville since 2007.   He is 14 years old and attends Western Sierra Collegiate Academy in Rocklin. Jarod has also a member of The First Tee Honor Roll and the Junior Tour.

Q & A Jarod Heng

If you could play a round of golf with anyone you wished, who would it be and why?

I would play with Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, or Bubba Watson because they are well-respected golfers and they are really experienced. I look up to them because they are good role models.

What is your favorite core value and why?

My favorite core value is confidence because confidence is very important in doing anything and you have to be confident to achieve greatness.

What are your goals after high school and how do you plan on accomplishing them?

I want to go to a highly recognized college, and maybe play professional golf. I also want to join the Red Cross.

What other activities are you involved in besides golf?

I do karate and am on the Kovar's demonstration team. I used to do Kumon, an after school extra educational program, but I finished both the math and reading parts of it.

Golf at William Land GC
Come Play William Land GC, Sacramento's Oldest Golf Treasure

The First Tee of Greater Sacramento currently runs William Land Golf Course and it's the home of many of our youth, Adaptive PE & California Eagles programs.  The course is great for golfers of all skill levels, a family outing or those that just have time for a quick 9 holes.  Come out and enjoy nine and support The First Tee of Greater Sacramento.

To say that William Land Park's 160 acres enjoys a rich history is an understatement. John Sutter wanted to ensure a city that would be above a consistently challenging flood plain. He located Sutterville at the southwest corner of what is now known as William Land Park. In 1911, Land left $250,000 "to purchase a public park within a suitable distance of Sacramento to be used as a recreation spot for the children and a pleasure ground for the poor." William Land Park was established on its present site in the 1920's and the golf course was built in 1924.
