Taryn Yee, at The First Tee's 2014 Trustee Dinner

Alumna Taryn Yee, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, had the incredible opportunity to share her story at the 2014 Trustee dinner for The First Tee in front of dignitaries including Honorary Chair President George W. Bush, Board Chair and PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, Champions Tour player Bobby Clampett and other Trustees!

By Taryn Yee,  Alumna
It was such an honor to attend The First Tee's Trustee Meeting and represent The First Tee! It was a very lovely evening at the Beach Club that brought back memories of The First Tee Open. I met many of the trustees and other dignitaries who were all very nice and had interesting stories, including Steve John, Fred Tattersall, President George W. Bush, Tim Finchem, and Joe Louis Barrow. At my table, my dad and I sat with Arn Tellem of Wasserman Media Group, Jerry Tarde of The Golf Digest, John McCoy and Jody Brothers from the PGA Tour, and Bobby and Marianna Clampett. It was a nice, relaxed evening, and Pedro (Ortiz) and I were the last to speak on stage, following Mr. Finchem and Mr. Bush. Mr. Clampett asked us each a few questions, so we had a chance to highlight our experiences in The First Tee and show how the organization has impacted our lives. I talked about how I got involved with the Sacramento chapter, what I learned, my experiences at The First Tee Open, and how the core values and life skills helped me achieve my goals with golf and academics. The best part was seeing all the enthusiasm and smiles in the audience while Pedro and I told our stories, and it was a nice feeling when people came up to talk to me after about how great it was to hear us speak. As you know, I attribute much of my confidence to get up and speak in front of an audience from The First Tee. I could also tell that all these supporters enjoyed us being there to really see how impactful the program is from participants.

It was such an exciting and inspirational opportunity to attend this meeting, and of course I never turn down an invitation to go to Pebble Beach. Thank you again for nominating me Angie, and for all the support throughout the years.

Look Whats Happening at William Land GC
William Land Golf Course gets a makeover thanks to Matthew Signorotti and friends, while completing his Eagle Scout Project. Mathew has been a participant of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento since 2004, and has also volunteered with our California Eagles Program.

"My Eagle Scout project has taught me determination and perseverance. Today, I plan to continue my project on other parts of The First Tee's facilities at William Land Golf Course."

Matthew began the first phase of his project along with 10 volunteers; they painted the learning center stalls, metal stall divider and the bleachers. The second phase of his project will be repairing and painting the Scoreboard. Matthew alone is responsible for the entire project including getting volunteers and the supplies for the project.

Matthew you are an outstanding participant of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento! Thank you for all that you have done in giving back to our chapter.

Taryn Yee

Taryn Yee started with The First Tee in 2002 at the age of 10 and graduated as a First Tee Scholar in 2010. As a participant of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, she was introduced to the game of golf through the Little Linkers, LPGA-USGA Girl's Golf Program, and Junior Tour. Taryn successfully completed The First Tee Life Skills Experience Ace-level certification and utilized these skills to coach juniors enrolled in the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program, mentor and teach the Life Skills Experience to fellow First Tee participants, actively participate on the Junior Committee, and give back to the community through volunteer work. The First Tee not only developed her golf ability, but also taught her valuable life skills and core values, encouraged her to reach out to the community through volunteer work, and prepared her for future endeavors.

On a national level, she participated in the Life Skills and Leadership Academy in Kansas in 2008, PLAYer Advanced Academy in Virginia in 2009, Future Leaders Forum in Florida in 2009, Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in 2009, and Home Care and Hospice First Tee Open in 2010. As The First Tee alumni and Scholar, she was invited to the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Executive Forum in Florida in
2011, where she interacted with clients and partners of PwC and was introduced to corporate accounting.
Because of this opportunity and experience, she pursued a bachelor degree in accounting at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). During her four years at UCI, she was a member of UCI's NCAA Division I Women's Golf Team, represented the golf team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and was President of the Accounting Association at UCI while maintaining a 3.8 grade-point average. Professionally, she was selected to attend the PwC Summer Leadership Program in Chicago in 2012 and interned in assurance at the PwC Orange County office last summer.
The First Tee Open 2009
In March 2014, Taryn graduated from UCI with a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with Accounting and Marketing specializations and was awarded the Chancellor's Award of Distinction. This summer she qualified and competed in the USGA Women's Amateur Public Links in Dupont, Washington. Currently, she is studying to be a Certified Public Accountant before she begins her career in San Francisco with PwC in 2015.
