1st Annual Cameron Champ Charity Golf Classic |
August 4th was such a special day when Alum Cameron Champ gave back to the program that has given him so much!
The 1st Annual Cameron Champ Charity Golf Classic, held at Rocklin Golf Club, was a huge success and benefited The First Tee of Greater Sacramento's National School Program. The
proceeds from this tournament will allow us to expand the program to reach an additional 5,000 students each year in the greater Sacramento area.
We would truly like to thank Cameron, Jeff and the entire Champ Family, along with all the sponsors and players in this year's tournament, for giving back to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento.

The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits
|
As summer quickly comes to an end and our junior golfers are gearing up for school, it is only natural for The Program Locations of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento to focus in on the three "Emotional" Nine Healthy Habits, which are: Vision, Mind and Family. It is our goal to help all of our young people to grow and become the adult that they wish to be.
As the fresh new school year starts, we want our participants to have a clear "Vision" of where they want to be at the end of this school year. Are they setting goals and making a complete goal ladder to help them make this vision a reality? Do they have the correct go-to team around them to hold them to this vision? These are just a couple of questions that coaches, friends and families can be asking our youth as they are moving through the year.
The Healthy Habit, Mind, is one in which may be considered as the most powerful. Our minds have the ability to influence our emotions, behaviors and can truly make a difference in our self-improvement, building confidence and maintaining perspective on the day to day challenges that each one of us face. Golf is hopefully something that helps each one of our juniors to keep a healthy mind. It is our goal at The First Tee of Greater Sacramento that our participants are learning to love the game; that it becomes something that helps them to stay positive, appreciate others and understand that we as individuals have the ability to make our lives whatever we choose.
Family is something that cannot be replaced...not only immediate, but also the families we create along the way. We at The First Tee of Greater Sacramento consider ourselves a family, in that we do want to create life long memories with our participants, we hope that all Program Locations feel like a home away from home for both parents and our junior golfers and we want our young people to know that all coaches are here to help them in whatever path they chose.

Alumni of The First Tee

Austin Smotherman graduated from Del Oro High school in 2012, after being a very active member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento for many years. In 2011, he won the Core Value Award, nominated by his peers on the junior tour and in 2009 & 2010 played in The First Tee Open. He also received the distinction of The First Tee Scholars - Class of 2012.
Austin is now attending Southern Methodist University (SMU) and is a rising junior on their Men's golf team. He is studying Advertising with a minor in Sports Management. Upon returning to the lineup in the first tournament of the spring after an early injury, Austin took 12th and was back on track. He says school and golf are difficult, but the process has been made easier with the discipline and guidelines that The First Tee taught him.
This summer, Austin fired a 65 in the final round to finish top amateur and 6th overall at the Texas State Open. He made a big move up the leaderboard making one eagle, seven birdies and two bogeys finishing the Championship with rounds of 72-68-70-65-275, 12-under par. He was one of seven amateurs to make the cut.
