On May 6th, 2014, more than 150 communities across the country will gather for one BIG Day of Giving. With the hope of reaching millions of donors and raising over $100m nationwide, each community will rally support for the vital work of local nonprofits. On that day, donors will also be inspired to give so that their favorite organizations will receive a proportionate share of the pool of matching funds.
How can you help? On May 6th, starting at midnight for 24 hours visit The First Tee of Greater Sacramento's link
and make a donation between $25 and $10,000. Gifts given on May 6th will be matched. Help The First Tee of Greater Sacramento win challenge prizes from the Day of Giving, like the most donors for the day, the most money raised, the first donation of $1,000 and so many more prizes.
Help us meet these challenges and join us on May 6th.

Why I Give Where My Heart Is
|
"I learned many life lessons as a junior golfer -- playing by the rules, accountability for my own actions and behavior, sportsmanship in the heat of competition ... that's what golf provides. That was years ago, before The First Tee and many changes in our culture. Today, in giving to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento, I know my money is being used wisely to teach these same character lessons to kids who might have challenges at home, at school, and in their neighborhood. The First Tee provides a safe, caring environment for learning, and it's a great investment for anyone interested in seeing our children grow up to become responsible, respected adults."

Meet Abby Ramirez, who has been with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento through the junior tour for the past five years. She is a freshman at Vista High School in Folsom. She is currently Eagle certified and in our Ace Life Skills class. Abby does a wonderful job as a life skills instructor on the junior tour and has volunteered nearly 20 hours with our chapter.
Q & A with Abby
What is your dream foursome? My dream foursome would be with Tiger Woods, Lorena Ochoa and Phil Mickelson.
Tell me something most people don't know about you. I had a pet goldfish that was 9 years old.
What is your favorite Core Value and why? My favorite core value is confidence because it is a necessity for life on and off the course. Also, it's important to have confidence to reach your goals because if you can believe, you can achieve.
What is your favorite part about being a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento? My favorite part of being a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento is playing at all of the different golf courses for tournaments.
If you were granted three wishes, what would you ask for? I would ask for world peace, enough food and shelter for everyone and that everyone was in perfect health.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years? I see myself graduating high school and playing college golf.

John Abendroth makes a visit
|

We would like to thank all of you for stopping by The First Tee of Greater Sacramento booth at Haggin Oaks Golf Expo. We had a very special guest John Abendroth. John has been the co-host of Hooked on Golf since 1994 (Fox Sports Bay Area and KNBR-680am and www.hookedongolf.com). He presented The First Tee of Greater Sacramento with a $1000 check from the foundation for our Golfership Program. We cannot thank John and Hooked on Golf enough! His contributions over the years to our Golfership fund have made it possible for many young people to experience our program that would otherwise have not been able to. Together we are making a difference in the futures of our young people and building leaders of tomorrow.

Northern California Minority Junior Golf
|
The First Tee of Greater Sacramento has several partnerships with outreach programs including the Northern California Minority Junior Golf Association. Our coaches provide instruction on Tuesdays at William Land Golf Course, read how this program has impacted one family:
We would like to take a moment to express our appreciation for all of the people involved with the Northern California Minority Junior Golf Association. The sessions/lessons that our son and daughter experienced was not only fun for them, but will also benefit them for years to come. This is a result of how the instructors were able to get the kids to have fun, but also to get them to focus on the fundamentals of the game.
My children are not able to understand the value of what this experience is at this time due to their age, but with out question they enjoyed every minute. We have also enjoyed the experience. The instructors encourage the parents to participate, but my husband and I was reluctant due to the fact that we've never played golf before. It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed it.
I would recommend that other parents allow their children to sign up for this program. This is not only fun and a great opportunity for the kids, but the parents get to participate and have fun too."
