California Eagle Program since 1983
|
The California Eagles is a golf program for people of all ages with special needs. The program includes, but is not limited to, people with Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Multiple Sclerosis and Attention Deficit Disorder. Participants can also be deaf, blind, or recovering from heart attacks and strokes.
The purpose of the program is to give individuals with special needs the opportunity to learn and enjoy the great game of golf. The goal is to instruct them to play golf well enough so they can play with friends, family and others. The California Eagles meet from 5:30 to 7:00 pm every Tuesday at Haggin Oaks, and from 5:30 to 7:00 pm every Monday at William Land Park. The program runs from mid-April to mid-September. In addition to weekly golf instruction there are several tournaments, putting contests and social events. Golf clubs are provided for each athlete. The Eagles also participate in the Special Olympics Northeast Region Golf Tournament at Haggin Oaks. Click here for a registration form

The Sacramento City Play League is off and running in its second session! This particular Play League is one that allows children to meet other junior golfers within their age group from different golf courses, as well as have the opportunity to learn how to prepare for a diverse line up of courses. Coaches have decided to add another set of tee's at each participating golf course and set progression goals for all golfers.
We have had much success in this, in that participants are now able to recognize more readily the areas of their golf game that need the most improvement.
