How Can You Help
|
The demand for Golferships is at an all-time high.
The First Tee of Greater Sacramento is committed to providing affordable golf opportunities to youth who would like to play the game of golf. To accomplish this commitment, we have created a Golfership program to assist those individuals and families who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to afford registration costs. Golferships are applicable toward any TFTGS program.
If you would like to give a golfership to a child in need please click here to donate.

California Eagles Program

The California Eagles (Special Olympics) program has been one of our most loved programs since its inception in 1986. This program annually brings 90 kids and adults with down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, and other disabilities out to the golf course.
The participants are taught the basics of the game of golf and our Target & PLAYer Life Skills curriculum. They spend time on the driving range, practice green, golf course and end their season with a tournament and barbecue. Physical therapists have verified that golf activities help the participants improve their mobility, balance and coordination. The program also adds to the participants' ability to concentrate which increases personal learning. The social aspect of this group is as important as the golf and life skills.
Those who have been in the program the longest mentor the newer players-which builds their confidence. They gain a lot of pride in their accomplishments on the golf course, helping their peers, and assisting the staff and volunteers with group tasks.
