A very special visit from our Alumnus Kristen Red-Horse
Sacramento's own Kristen Red-Horse came home in February, she met with the kids at William Land Golf Course, and had a chance to speak with Frank LaRosa, regarding the impact this program has had on her life.

Kristen Red-Horse is a graduate of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento whowas a recognized TFT Scholar in 2004, and as a result received a full paid education to NYU majoring in Broadcast Journalism. Kristen is a shining example of youth who excel as a result of their time with The First Tee. Today she is an associate producer with ABC News in New York.

"Thank goodness The First Tee is for more than great golfers," Red-Horse said.
Thank you from Coach Kelli!

At the beginning of my journey here at Haggin Oaks, one of my most important goals was to grow our Girls Golf Program.  After three seasons, I am so happy to have seen a huge change in the number of young ladies who have decided to take up the sport that we all love.  It is from our female participants that I have been reminded as to why I chose to take up the game and continue to enjoy not only playing, but being around the sport everyday.

These young ladies see the sport for what it is and understand the values in which it instills.  Yes, it offers the opportunity of being competitive, but importantly they see that everyone is capable of participating.  I recently met with a group of 45+ young girls, ages 6 to 16.  At first they were quiet, however that lasted about 5 minutes (which is not normal for a coed group of children).  As I observed them create their own groups and make new friends, it dawned on me that they don't see ability, they see a possible new friend, a trait that many adults have forgotten.

So to the young ladies in The First Tee program and to those who joined Coach Atlee, Coach Sam and myself at the Girls Golf Clinics, I would like to say thank you for reminding me why I chose this path.  You continue to teach me every day!
