Potter's quick tip
Fixing settled glazes
Q. Some of my glazes have settled into a thick layer at the bottoms of their containers with a watery layer on top. Can you tell me why this is happening and what to do about it?
A. John Britt comes to the rescue again with this six minute tutorial on fixing hard panned glazes.
Deflocculated? Hmm, a description of sheep that have made a break for it and scattered in all directions? Well, no. It seems that every pursuit has its own specialized vocabulary with some truly exotic-sounding terms. So, if you've ever wondered what "deflocculated" or "thixotropic" means and why it's helpful to know, you'll find out in this video.

Shazam! You're a frog!
From functional pot to animal sculpture
With all of the funny cat videos on the Web, shouldn't there be at least one of a cat "helping" its potter to throw on the wheel? Here's what a diligent search turned up instead:
Join potters Don Ellis and Randy Brodnax as they show you in this Ceramic Arts Daily video how to turn functional wheel-thrown pots into a cat, a frog, or any other animal you can dream up. You'll also enjoy the good-natured kidding that goes on between these two old pals as they work. Bonus videoIf you liked the surface on Randy Brodnax's frog and want to know how he did it, this bonus video gives you the lowdown:
