Summer school for clay enthusiasts
Summer in Michigan is understandably filled with outdoor activities. But free some time in your busy schedule to take a ceramics class or two, where you can create ceramic works that will give your summer fun an extra special touch.
Here's what I'm talking about: make ceramic tumblers for serving ice-cold drinks; vases to hold colorful flowers from your garden; plates, salad bowls, and berry bowls to complement the fresh, delicious produce you've grown; and platters and trays for the yummy food at all your barbecues, cookouts, and picnics.
When your friends and neighbors ask you where you got that amazing bowl, tray, or vase, you'll have the satisfaction of answering, "I made it myself."
You're sure to find a class that will fit in with your plans from among our new sessions that begin in June:
Get off to a bright and early start on Saturday mornings in the Coffee and Clay hand building class.
Choose from three Beginning/Continuing Wheel Throwing classes that meet different days and times.
Let your kids ages 7 to 10 explore their creativity in our week-long Kids Clay Mornings class.
Try your hand at wheel throwing in one of the three summer Try It Once on the Wheel classes.

Have you "friended" us yet?
Yourist Studio Galley now has a Facebook page where you can keep up with all the latest studio and gallery news and events. Visit today to see recent photos of Kay Yourist and Anny Unbehaun unloading the gas kiln. It's akin to opening King Tut's tomb and viewing all the treasures within.
Also check out the photos of the fun we had at the recent gallery grand opening and of some of the ceramic works currently on display in the gallery. (By the way, you still have time to come see this new exhibit, which will be on display until mid-June.)
Thumbs up to Community Studio Resident Artist Kris Cravens, who maintains our new Facebook page. We hope you'll visit often and "like" us a lot!

Tool talk: A potter's quick tip
Q. Kay, do you have a favorite tool, one that you simply wouldn't want to be without? A. I sure do. I use my Dolan 220C knife for everything. You can see from the photo that the handle is ergonomic, which means the knife is easy to grip and manipulate. Of course, the 220C is made with the same high quality of all Dolan tools. I couldn't do without it. | Dolan 220C ergonomic knife

The Dolan 220C knife and other popular Dolan tools are available for purchase at the studio.
Readers, tell us what your favorite pottery tool is. And if you've got a pottery question for Kay, ask away. |
