On May 30, the West Colfax Historic Resource Survey team along with experts and historians shared their learning about the history of Colfax Avenue and preservation efforts in the corridor. A special congratulations to the Historic Resource Survey team, particularly to local historians Robert and Kris Autobee, along with the City of Lakewood for holding the first-ever West Colfax Historic Preservation Symposium. The event was attended by more than 50 people.

Funded by a $50,000 grant from the State Historical Fund, with matching funds from the Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District, the Historic Resource Survey team conducted 18 months of work, which included an historic resource survey of the 5-mile corridor stretching from Sheridan Boulevard west to Youngfield Street to document the history of buildings more than 50 years old. The survey team will wrap up its work this summer and provide a final report to the state in September. Planning is already underway on ways to use the data gathered, including published material, recordings for self-guided tours, and interpretive signage.
