Developers Conference Showcases West Colfax Corridor Momentum

More than 70 real estate professional, including developers, investors, and brokers, gathered today (May 27) at Lamar Station Plaza, home to world-famous Casa Bonita, to hear about the renaissance of West Colfax in Lakewood.

Spearheaded by Lakewood's Economic Development Department
Margaret Hunt, Director of CCI
and its "Embrace the Fax" campaign, the event featured presentations and panel discussions about the transformation of West Colfax into a creative corridor and included keynote remarks from Margaret Hunt, Director of Colorado Creative Industries, and Wendy Holmes, Senior Vice Present of Artspace.
Wendy Holmes, Sr. VP of Artspace
The morning gathering focused on the extensive planning efforts and significant public investments by the City as well as the ongoing impact of arts and culture through 40 West Arts District and its growing number of artists and creative enterprises contributing to the transformation of the area.

"One of the key factors that led to our investment in the area was the 'coolness factor,'" said Michael Jacoby, CEO of Bethesda-based Broad Street
Michael Jacoby, CEO of Broad Street
Ventures, who purchased the old JCRS shopping center and renamed it Lamar Station Plaza. "With all that's happening with 40 West Arts and the draw created by Casa Bonita and the arts related activities, we knew we wanted to be involved here."

After
a lunch at Lamar Station Crossing, the award-winning TOD project by Metro West Housing Solutions, the conference attendees enjoyed a tour of the area in a luxury coach, including stops at current and potential developments sites, 40W Gallery, and Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, and ended the day with a reception at Casa Bonita.

"This was a great day for West Colfax," said Bill Marino, who leads the Lakewood-West Colfax BID and 40 West Arts District. "We were able to showcase our vision for the future and the near-term place-making initiatives underway.  Kudos to the City for hosting and promoting the conference. The caliber and sophistication of attendees demonstrate the viability of the corridor for even more investment activity."

According to local estimates, projects in planning and in progress total more than $240M, including the recently completed world headquarters for TerumoBCT, the FirstBank headquarters expansion, and  2000+ multi-family units, all along  Lakewood's W Line Corridor.
