"If I were called upon to define briefly the word Art, I should call it the reproduction of what the senses perceive in nature, seen through the veil of the soul." -- Paul Cezanne

40 West Arts is proud to be recognized as a Certified Creative District by Colorado Creative Industries.
40 West Arts Named State-Certified Creative District

We're Certified! (Some might say  "certifiable"). . .but WE DID IT! The committee from Colorado Creative Industries, a division of the state's Office of Economic Development and International Trade, convened last week and designated 40 West Arts as the newest member of a rather elite group--one of only 11 state-certified creative districts in Colorado.

"Certification will bring more exposure to 40 West," said 40W member artist, sculptor, and architect Faye Crowe, "and that will attract more artists and more visitors to the district. This is great news for 40 West, the corridor, and the entire community."

"We are so thrilled and so grateful!" added Bill Marino, 40 West Board chair. "This is such a collective accomplishment for the corridor, our members and volunteers, and our many community partners. It's also a tribute to our friends at the City of Lakewood. They've been with us every step of the way. But there are many, many people who have contributed to this achievement. It's not about one person or one organization; it's about the community, and working together to pursue the vision of building an authentic and sustainable creative community."

It's anticipated that state certification will usher in another growth spurt for 40 West and will help to further stimulate economic activity in the corridor. In addition to the tangible benefits--$20,000 in CCI and Boettcher Foundation grants along with other state resources--the certification will help bolster awareness of the corridor, expand the reach of 40 West artists, and create new opportunities for local creative businesses.

". . .Creative districts are great examples of how the arts create exciting places for people to visit and live," said Governor Hickenlooper in a statement. "These districts not only increase quality of life, they also help with economic vitality of the area and attract people from all over Colorado and the country." (Click here to read the full press release.)

JOIN US for a "Certification Celebration" during 40 West 4th Wednesday - tomorrow beginning at 5:30pm at 40 West Gallery. We'll share a brief presentation about state certification--and then--let the party begin!
