On the Dance Floor...

Here's what's new with DOD:

 We Tried Our Best

Dear DOD readers,

As the founder of our small but mighty organization, it is with a sigh of sadness that I write this column to share that your Board of Directors have decided to place Dance Out Diabetes in an inactive state after the September dance.

This means we will no longer hold dances after 9/12/15, and the next 3 dances are no charge.

As much as we tried to continue with our volunteer-based model, the time it takes to run a non-profit organization was beyond what we could sustain. We had difficulty finding enough funding to keep us going beyond covering the expenses of operations. What we need is funding to pay for staff that can dedicate their efforts to our cause. To juggle the demands of an organization is a challenge in and of itself; to do so on top of regular jobs and family responsibilities is too much to ask and is not sustainable. We did hold this model together and enjoyed 5 years of dancing together, but now it is time for our next chapter.

In an inactive state, we will keep the website online as it has many resources. We will need to retain enough funds in reserve to cover those expenses. If we do have anything left over in reserves, we will offer small incentives at the September dance.

So please come and join us for these last 3 months. Let's get some more time on the dance floor together.

Grace's Message

Welcome Everyone!

To our last three dances...thinking back to December, many family and friends asked why in the world I would even try to take on the Executive Director position at DOD. All I could tell them was that for me, this program works. I believe in the mission of DOD.

Now we are at a crossroads. What should we do after our last dance? Personally, I didn't realize DOD was actually teaching we to be more active, to participate in something bigger than myself, and to dance.
I now realize that I enjoy volunteering and find that it helps to keep me grounded. Dancing makes me HAPPY, and exploring new forms of dance/exercise has become another outlet for me.

I'd like you to look back on your test results and see what each of you have accomplished since attending DOD. Pat yourselves on the back for coming to the dances and being a part of Dance Out Diabetes! I challenge you to keep dancing anywhere and everywhere. I hope that each time you have participated in one of our dances that you, too, have been taught to prevent and manage your diabetes through dance.

May the next three dances be a spring board for the next chapters in all our lives.

Let's Dance!
