Learn what's new at DOD. Let's start with:
Tai Chi as Dance with Arnel Valle
this Saturday
8/9/14, 1-3 p.m.!
(Download flyer & share with others HERE)

Tai Chi as Dance is a style of the traditional Tai Chi forms that are popular in China and Taiwan and have recently been introduced to the U.S. It blends classic, graceful Chinese choreography with Tai Chi forms of exercise, and it contributes to goals of increasing body flexibility and strength, improving your balance, and of achieving serenity and self-confidence.

Join us at the African American Art & Culture Complex located at 762 Fulton Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 (Muni access & free parking).

No need to register. Just show up! You get a $277 value health screening, and if you dance, collect $10 in carrot cash to spend at participating farmers' markets (for kids with diabetes and all adults who participate). The health screening is optional, but it is needed to get the carrot cash reward. We suggest a $10 donation at the door, if you can afford.

Please arrive promptly at 1 p.m. for check-in (or 1:15 p.m. if you are not doing the health screening). Bring water, a snack if you need it, and comfortable shoes. Have a question? Call Theresa at 1-877-765-4386 or email her at tgarnero@danceoutdiabetes.org.

Theresa's Message

Looking forward to a new type of dance this month, thanks to the recommendation of our one of our participants (who is also celebrating her birthday - she knows who she is!).

Had a few interviews recently. One is posted with Sanofi. Check it out! Another is slated for a major publication in November. We are doing great things and it is nice to have the recognition. Mostly, it is about having fun while being active. Thank you to all who are involved.

Are you due for an A1C? Be sure to bring your DOD Health Card (the little wallet-sized card) to track it. Of course our educators will let you know as well and are ready to answer any of your questions

Lastly, if you haven't read Paula Ford Martin's latest article, it is excellent. (See the border on the left for the link and we will have copies for those in attendance).

Best regards,

Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE
