Zumba Gold with Rossy Leon

Diabetes in
Real Life
This new series is written by Paula Ford-Martin, MA and covers useful tips and helpful ways to manage diabetes.

You can find
Vol. 1, No. 4 here.

Greetings!

Learn what's new at DOD. Let's start with:

Zumba Gold with Rossy Leon this Saturday
4/12/14, 1-3 p.m.!
(Download flyer & share with others HERE)

Rossy Leon Zumba Gold

Instructor Rossy Leon is back with more Zumba fun! Let her show you the moves to this dance fitness program that combines Latin and international music with steps based on salsa, merengue, cumbia,
reggaeton and samba. The "Gold" part means it is an easier version of Zumba.

Join us at the African American Art & Culture Complex located at 762 Fulton Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 (Muni access & free parking).

No need to register. Just show up! You get a $277 value health screening, and if you dance, collect $10 in carrot cash to spend at participating farmers' markets (for kids with diabetes and all adults who participate). The health screening is optional, but it is needed to get the carrot cash reward. We suggest a $10 donation at the door, if you can afford.

Please arrive promptly at 1 p.m. for check-in (or 1:15 p.m. if you are not doing the health screening). Bring water, a snack if you need it, and comfortable shoes. Have a question? Call Theresa at 1-877-765-4386 or email her at tgarnero@danceoutdiabetes.org.

Not in San Francisco? Join us  virtually via live stream at 1:30 p.m. by clicking here.

DJ Charis is BACK!

And with her, she brings her marvelous DJ skills and fun energy. She also happens to be a megadancer.

We are so glad she has returned. She was caring for her mom, who we will continue to keep in our thoughts.

UCSF Motivational Physical Activity Education Study

The UCSF Motivational Physical Activity Education Study (mPED) needs 6 women for a 12 month study to compare pedometer and mobile-phone based physical activity programs in increasing daily brisk walking steps.

Six more women are needed to wear a pedometer and use a cell phone app everyday for 9 months. Learn more HERE.

New Donation Page

Want to donate to DOD? We have a new online form, and it's easy to use! Access our donation page on the DOD website.

You can donate in honor of someone, make it a one-time or recurring donation, or make it anonymous.

We appreciate your support in preventing and managing diabetes. Your donations play a key part in keeping our programs running!

Can You Bring Water & Snacks to Share?

It is important to stay hydrated while having fun on the dance floor. Dance Out Diabetes is looking for volunteers to donate and bring water bottles and healthy snacks for participants at the dance. If you can bring to share, great! Otherwise, the water fountain is 3 floors down, so please bring water for yourself. Thanks!

Theresa's Message

In gratitude of Volunteer Appreciation Week, I thank each and every Dance Out Diabetes volunteer. You are the heart of our organization and make it possible.

The contribution of time is a huge gift. It is also my gift to you as I work on DOD most every day after my "real" job at UCSF wherein I manage the stellar Madison Clinic for Pediatric Diabetes.

I will be passing out free hugs to all volunteers. And if you are not a hugger, that's OK. You are appreciated!

Warmly,

Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE
