Hawaiian Hula instructor, Elsa Rivera, is bringing Dance Out Diabetes a total body workout inspired by dances of the Pacific Islands. Hawaiian Hula incorporates easy to perform dance movements set to the sounds of traditional Polynesian drum beats fused with funky Reggae music, resulting in a modern, hip fitness workout.

She teaches in such a way that everyone can follow! And it's for women AND men!

This Month's Sponsor is: Werther's

As a volunteer-run organization, we depend on individual donors and corporate sponsors to keep our programs going at no cost to participants.

This month's sponsor is Werther's, the maker of the Werther's Original Sugar-free Candies. What? Diabetes and candy? We know it happens and want you to be aware of the options should you need a little something to satisfy your sweet tooth. They are similar to the Classic Candy with the creamy caramel taste, but sugar-free and with 40% fewer calories (8 calories/piece) than regular Werther's Original Hard Candy. They only have 3 grams of carbohydrate! Try a sample at this Saturday's Hawaiian Hula Dance.

What a month!

It has been a remarkable month. For the past year and a half, we have garnered the attention of the Helmsley Charitable Trust Foundation. In the end, we do not serve enough type 1s to warrant funding in their eyes.

That's alright. We are better prepared as a result of the relationship. One day, we will be in a position to hire a full-time Executive Director to bring our little organization to a much broader audience. No other diabetes non-profit has done what we have: go from zero to being published in less than 3 years. That's without big time funders...

Anyone in our DOD family knows we are about the community no matter what your type. We have a passion for reaching more people. At the strategic planning meeting coming up on July 20, we will unveil our type 1 outreach program and other national inquiries to scale our model.

So thanks for being a part of us.

If you are not able to make our strategic planning meeting and have any thoughts you'd like to throw in the mix, please send me an email at tgarnero@danceoutdiabetes.org.
