More Time to Process Vaccination Records
The government's No Jab, No Pay Measure has produced a higher than expected demand for vaccinations and the updating of vaccination records. This has caused delays for some vaccination providers in being able to transfer vaccination records to the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR). Therefore vaccination providers now have more time to update immunisation records before a parent's eligibility for child care payments is ceased.

An additional $6 incentive payment will be made to vaccination providers who follow up and vaccinate children who are more than two months overdue for their childhood vaccinations ... read more in the Fact Sheet published by the Department of Health.

Changes to Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements
As part of the new Biosecurity Act 2015 which takes effect on 16 June, the period of protection of a yellow fever vaccination will change from 10 years to the duration of the life of the person vaccinated. Therefore vaccinated persons who are travelling to yellow fever-declared countries, and who are due to have a booster vaccination before 16 June, are not required to do so for health protection purposes ... read more on the Department of Health website.

My Health Record - Clinical Software Issue
On 8 March 2016, Microsoft released a security update for the .NET framework which introduced an issue for a .NET function to compute digital signatures. This issue prevents clinical documents being uploaded to or downloaded from My Health Record where the Microsoft security update has been applied. The issue is expected to affect a large number of Windows-based clinical systems running multiple versions of the Windows operating system and the Microsoft.NET framework where the 8 March .NET security update patch has been applied. NEHTA is working with Microsoft to resolve the problem.

Did you know that ...
Legionnaires' Disease is a rare form of pneumonia?

Although Legionnaires' Disease is a common kind of bacteria found in the environment, only a few people who come in contact with the bacteria become infected.

Those who are at greater risk of becoming infected are: people over 50; people with a chronic illness; people with a medical condition that impairs their immune system; and smokers.

Early symptoms are similar to the flu and can include: headache; fever; chills; muscle aches; cough; and shortness of breath.

TOP TIP FOR ACCREDITATION
Our practice implements strategies to ensure the occupational health and safety of our GPs and other members of the practice team.

The occupational health and safety of the practice team is governed by occupational health and safety (OH&S) state/territory and federal legislation, which may vary from state to state. Practices need to consider how they ensure the practice is a safe working environment for the practice team.

During normal opening hours, there needs to be at least one additional person who can take telephone calls, make appointments, assess the urgency of requests for appointments and assist with medical emergencies - a GP cannot be both a receptionist and a medical practitioner at the same time.

The RACGP encourages practices to have a duress alarm system for the safety of practice staff - these can be in the form of a button to press that brings up an alert on all the other computers in the practice.
