QI&CPD Points - Quality Improvement Activities

GPs are now able to turn any ALM that they have completed into a Quality Improvement (QI) activity by clicking on 'My CPD' on the RACGP website. Once logged in, GPs need to click on 'Self Directed Activity' and submit a 'QI Reflection'. Once the QI reflective questions have been submitted, the GP will be allocated 5 category 2 points and will meet their requirement for the current triennium. GPs can submit multiple QI reflections however, points are capped at 15. 

 

Proposed $7.00 Co-Payment

Patients are reportedly confused over the government's proposed $7.00 co-payment with many unsure of whether it has commenced. Practices have had patients cancelling booked appointments and instead going to hospital emergency departments to avoid paying the $7.00. Did You Know.....

In Queensland alone up to three children are rushed to hospital every day after swallowing foreign objects such as lithium batteries. 

A study in the United States revealed that in 62% of ingestion cases, children had removed the batteries from electronic devices around the home - in most cases 20mm batteries from remote controls.

Some of the symptoms to watch out for are vomiting/retching, abdominal pain, low grade fever, persistent drooling and difficulty breathing if the battery is blocking the airway.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH  
 
Parmesan Crisps

Try these at your next wine and cheese evening!

   

 
 
 
 
 
Ingredients  

250g grated parmesan cheese
1½ tablespoons sesame seeds and/or

1½ tablespoons poppy seeds
Freshly ground black pepper  

 

This recipe makes about 25 crisps and can be made several hours ahead.

Store in a glass jar or airtight container.   

 
Method 

Preheat the oven to moderate (180°C). Line oven trays with baking paper.
Drop level tablespoonfuls of the cheese onto prepared trays, allowing five per tray as crisps will spread during cooking. Press tops lightly then sprinkle with seeds and pepper. 
Bake in a moderate oven for about 12 minutes or until browned and crisp.
