PRACTICE TOP TIP FOR ACCREDITATION
Patient Privacy in the Waiting Room
Recent media coverage raised the issue of protecting patient privacy by avoiding calling out patients' full names in the waiting room.
One way that some practices have chosen to manage this, is by calling a patient by their first name only; or by the doctor going up to the patient to signal to them to come through for their appointment.
Some practices have chosen to implement a ticketing system to call patients in order to protect their identity. In this instance, it is important to explain to patients why the practice has made this change to ensure patients understand the reasons for this.
Ultimately, practices are encouraged to adopt a common sense approach based on the needs of their patients and practical considerations.
