Wow! What a great start to what is bound to be another great year at Scott High School. School is well underway and everyone is working hard to maintain the high level of learning which is a tradition at Scott High School. With a little over 930 students currently enrolled, we are excited to see them start off the year in such a positive manner.
ScottFest Thanks so much to everyone who came and joined us for ScottFest. It was a great success with hundreds of visitors touring the new wing, visiting the ScottFest booths, and enjoying the Scott Concession Stand.
Schedules First trimester schedules are set. It is possible that a student has a class or two which will need to be adjusted for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. We will be working on those in the next few weeks. It is likely we will need to hire additional staff to accommodate the slight increase in enrollment. A change in staffing will increase the options for student schedules in 2nd and 3rd trimester. If your child has an open class in the 2nd or 3rd trimester, don't worry; we will be adjusting that schedule over the next few weeks to assure they have a full schedule before classes begin. We will continue to work on schedules to improve the quality of the educational experience at Scott High School.
Learning and Behavioral Expectations Scott High School students have experienced several conversations since the beginning of school in relation to learning and behavior expectations. These included small group instruction from multiple teachers and a presentation from myself. This week a letter from Scott High School will be sent home which references these events and policies with links to information for you to review with your child. Please take the time to review, sign, and return to the school. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at Brennon.Sapp@kenton.kyschools.us
Construction The Kenton County School Board continues to support and facilitate the structural improvements to Scott High School. Over the next year, construction will continue on a new science wing, library, and cafeteria. The new wing is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. To see some of this construction in action, you can view a video clip of recent activity here.
Scott Cares Scott Cares will continue a weekly advisory period this year. Once a week, we will meet in small groups with our students to discuss their future as well as the best ways for them to become responsible adults. The first three days of school we utilized the advisor/advisee period to review student expectations as well as send information home for parents to review. After reviewing student expectations, parents are asked to confirm understanding by signing a written acknowledgement which should then be sent back to school. If you have any questions about student expectations, please contact me at Brennon.Sapp@kenton.kyschools.us.
Grading Scale After a year of research, conversations with teachers, students, and parents, Scott High School SBDM asked the Kenton County Board of Education if they would alter the district grading scale to a ten point scale in order to be more consistent with college grading scales as well as other advantages (please see SBDM minutes for more details). Beginning this fall the new grading scale will be in effect in Kenton County Schools.
Introducing the Latin System of Senior Recognition After a year of research, conversations with teachers, students, and parents, Scott High School SBDM asked the Kenton County Board of Education to allow high schools to implement a Latin System of Recognition in order to recognize seniors for reaching high levels of academic achievement as well as support a culture of teamwork and collaboration. Beginning with the class of 2016, Scott High School will transition from recognizing a Valedictorian and Salutatorian to utilizing the Latin System of Academic Performance. For the 2015-2016 academic year, Scott High School plans to recognize a Valedictorian and a Salutatorian in addition to recognizing students utilizing the Latin System of recognition as follows: -
Summa Cum laude, meaning "with highest honor"
-
Magna Cum Laude, meaning "with great honor"
-
Cum Laude, meaning "with praise" (or "with honor")
We are so excited for the new school year. Scott will continue to be a place where great students do amazing things. We hope you will be a part of our community. Please let us know if you have questions or we can help in any way. Thanks.

SCOTT EAGLE CLUB INFORMATION FOR 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR
|

2015-2016 Eagle Club
SCOTT HIGH SCHOOL EAGLE CLUB
Who We Are:
The Eagle Club is a combination of a PTO and Athletic Booster Club.
What We Do:
The Eagle Club is designed to give financial help to the school and athletic teams. Some of the items that the Eagle Club helps to finance are all the academic awards that are given on Awards night in May, the Eagle Cash program, Scholarships (3 @ $1000), receptions such as the meal provided before parent-teacher night and elects the SBDM parent representatives each year. They help finance athletics by paying half of a teams' cost to purchase new uniforms every so many years, awards to district, regional, and state champions. The Eagle Club pays for the letters, bars, and pins for both athletics and academics. In addition, the club accepts special requests. A few years ago, the Eagle Club helped the band finance new chairs for the band room and recently, the drama club made a request for help with some items for the spring production. The majority of the money used to fund these requests is generated from the concession stands at our home games. Yearly the Club spends approximately $20,000 to support Scott High School activities. Beginning in 2012, Fieldhouse grillouts and after school concessions have funded many athletic teams and school organizations.
Joining Eagle Club:
Every family is an automatic member of the Eagle Club. Currently, the Eagle Club is entertaining thoughts on a membership drive in order to raise more funds to use for the students of Scott High School.
