Where great students do amazing things

Week of September 15, 2014

Message from the Principal 9-15-14:

As we move into fall, Scott is proud to continue working with the community toward the goal of providing a high quality educational experience.

Thank you Principal's Student Advisory

This past Friday a group of student leaders, the Principal's Student Advisory, led by Emma Donaldson and Casey Child, conducted a freshman retreat on the football field to promote school pride as well as other key personal qualities. The event culminated with each freshman being awarded a free pass to the football game this Friday night. We are very proud of the following students for leading our freshmen through this powerful event.

Congratulations to Rebecca Heineke

It is our pleasure to report that the Kentucky World Language Association (KWLA) has selected Rebecca Heineke as the 2014 recipient of the KWLA Outstanding New Teacher Award! We are very proud of her for receiving this recognition. Thanks Mrs. Heineke for all you do.

Teacher Awards

Each month at Scott High School faculty meetings, four teachers are recognized for their contributions and commitment to Scott High School in the following areas. Please congratulate:

  • Academic Urgency Award- This is awarded to a teacher who regularly pushes students to be engaged at a high level. In this teacher's class students are learning on a schedule and are trying to learn/accomplish goals at a fast pace. Students are engaged bell to bell. This month's recipient is Mr. Ryan Henry.

  • Positive Behavioral Support Role Model-This is awarded to a teacher who does an exceptional job of modeling or training other teachers in PBIS in order to improve a teammate's performance. This teacher utilizes positive interventions and language with students including Eagle Cash and Eagle Bucks. This month's recipient is
    Mr. Brad Carr.

  • Positive Influence Award-This is awarded to a teacher who is consistently positive with those around them, even when confronted with difficulty and/or negativity. This month's recipient is Mr. Tom Clark.

  • Life Saver/Master Interventionist Award-This is awarded to a teacher who goes above and beyond the call of duty to have a positive effect on a student's life which possibly results in a significant positive change in the student's behavior/success. This month's recipient is Mrs. Addison Welp.

Assessments

Last week our freshmen and sophomore students began MAP testing in Math and English. These assessments are utilized to provide specific feedback on each student's performance in order to target instruction in areas of need. Additionally, our sophomores registered for the PLAN test. The PLAN test, which will be given on the morning of Tuesday, September 23, will provide information on each student's progress toward college readiness.

Schedule

With the recent additions of staff, we added several sections of classes.  We are currently adjusting 2nd and 3rd trimester classes.  Student schedules for 2nd and 3rd trimesters are scheduled to be completed this week. We will continue to concentrate efforts on graduation requirements first and then consider elective choices.  If students find they would like to change a class for 2nd or 3rd trimester, they should utilize the schedule change request forms and only request viable schedule changes.

Homecoming Week

This week is Homecoming for Scott. Students are encouraged to dress according to a daily theme in order to express their school spirit, culminating in a pep rally at the end of the day on Friday. We are happy to support these activities and would love to see each of you with us for the parade on Friday and the Homecoming Game. Our priority continues to be providing a high quality educational experience each and every day. As such, the dress code is to be honored and classes will continue as normal. Please review these expectations with the students.

Expectations

As we move forward in the school year, we will review specific expectations to keep them fresh in the students' minds.  If you did not receive a letter, please refer to the policies below as well as The Kenton County School District Code of Expected Behavior and Conduct.

2014-15 SCOTT HIGH SCHOOL EAGLE CLUB
2014-15 SCOTT EAGLE CLUB

Who We Are:

The Eagle Club is a combination of a PTO and Athletic Booster Club.

What We Do:

The Eagle Club is designed to give financial help to the school and athletic teams. Some of the items that the Eagle Club helps to finance are all the academic awards that are given on Awards night in May, the Eagle Cash program, Scholarships (3 @ $1000), receptions such as the meal provided before parent-teacher night and elects the SBDM parent representatives each year. They help finance athletics by paying half of a teams' cost to purchase new uniforms every so many years, awards to district, regional, and state champions. The Eagle Club pays for the letters, bars, and pins for both athletics and academics. In addition, the club accepts special requests. A few years ago, the Eagle Club helped the band finance new chairs for the band room and recently, the drama club made a request for help with some items for the spring production. The majority of the money used to fund these requests is generated from the concession stands at our home games. Yearly the Club spends approximately $20,000 to support Scott High School activities. Beginning in 2012, Fieldhouse grillouts and after school concessions have funded many athletic teams and school organizations.

Joining Eagle Club:

Every family is an automatic member of the Eagle Club. Currently, the Eagle Club is entertaining thoughts on a membership drive in order to raise more funds to use for the students of Scott High School.

Officers:

President - Jeff Schneider
Vice President - Jonna Parsons
Concessions - Dennis Flynn
Treasurer - Allyson Fuller-Moore
Secretary - Jeremiah Madden
Principal - Brennon Sapp
Athletic Director - Ken Mueller
SBDM parent representatives - Sandy Arnold and Lisa Beckelhimer

Meetings:

All meetings are open to the public and are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00PM in room 215 (Temporary Library). During these meetings, information about the school activities are shared by Dr. Sapp, Principal and Mr. Mueller, Athletic Director.

Kroger Community Rewards Program--Scott Eagle Club is now participating in the Kroger Community Rewards Program.  This program has the potential to bring significant revenue to the Eagle Club with minimal effort!  We need to have as many parents, friends and family register their Kroger Plus Card to the Scott High Eagle Club.  We earn money based on a percentage of purchases above a set minimum.  The more people that register and sign up for the Eagle Club, the more revenue potential we have, which is more money that we can put back into our school and its teams and clubs!  The process will only take a few minutes and we have made directions available with the attachment provided.  Please note that if you select the Scott High Eagle Club, this has no effect on your fuel points or any other perks associated with the Kroger Plus Card.  (Please note that if your son or daughter is involved in a club or sport that has their own Kroger enrollment, please be sure to contribute to that specific organization.)  Thank you in advance for taking the time to register!  Please contact Allyson Fuller-Moore at 859-801-8648 or fullerallyson@yahoo.com should you have any questions.
